A few years back there was an old saying in auto racing. “When the green flag drops, the BS stops”. I’m sure many of you remember it. I think it still applies in our weekly shows at our local tracks. However I think the opposite applies in the current NASCAR world. I consider lucky dogs, wave around, stage racing and the play offs BS racing. It’s artificial. Especially the lucky dog. You lose a lap racing you should have to get it back racing. Jimmie Johnson, a great driver, does not get the respect Petty and Earnhardt get because he is considered a ten race champion.Without the play off format he would not have a single championship. Stageracing would be more acceptable if they didn’t throw the caution and interrupt the flow of the race. They will do this on road courses in 2023.

Jimmie Johnson won his first championship before they went to the goofy (in my opinion)playoff format.

Kevin I think all of Jimmy' championships came under the 10 race Playoff format.

I was wrong. I'm not a JJ fan or hater but you race under the rules in place at the time youre racing. He adjusted his style and strategy to run up front with the rules in place at the time and I'm sure he could have adjusted accordingly under the previous rules. He ran 2nd to Kenseth in 2003 in what was his 2nd or 3rd season in Cup. I'm sure he'd have figured it out.

I would rather see one guy (lucky dog) get his lap back instead of 10 cars getting their lap back by racing back to the caution like we did 30 years ago. At least the luck dog is a legitimate front running car, whereas back in the day even the junkers were getting laps back under the old rule.

In my opinion Nascar has become almost unwatchable.  Thank god for Flo so I can see alot of great racing on my own clock.  I turned it on w/ son on Sunday for a few minutes and he even realized it stunk!  The whole thing is like a spinoff of WWE wrestling, a joke!  The stands looked pretty thin as far as attendees, so I guess I'm not alone in my thoughts.

There is also a saying new isn't always better. Flo racing from what is understand is great and I'm the long run a bargin. But I also here a lot fans are staying home and watching Flo and not going to the tracks. While it maybe great, if the crowds don't come the tracks will shut down and then what. The tracks are facing low car counts and dwindling crowds it could be the sport is as they say eating their young.

Nobody enjoys the good old days more than me , ( hell I went to the Allentown Fairgrounds Market today and purposely entered the old track on the 2nd turn and drove down the backstretch thru the 3rd turn and out on the 4th turn to get to the entrance of the market ) but I agree that  the drivers have to adjust to win championships  by what the rules are at the time . Kind of like all sports , remember when you used to be able to tackle the quarterback or had to have a batter hit a double to get on base in extra innings ? I guss as much as we hate it , we fans have to adjust to the rules too .
