Received via email from Patti Dmuchowski:  "Freddy found this in the garage in response to a Feb 4 thread/picture. His when he started racing. Black electrical tape marks over mouth screen to keep out dirt."

From 3Wide:  I don't know if these types of mask's had a name or not, but there was a time in the mid 60's where I was probably 6 or 7 years old, and thought a lot of drivers had very pointy noses!

Thanks for sharing this picture Team #303.

I thought the same thing Joe.  As a young lad sitting in the Flemington covered grandstand, I thought all the drivers faces / noses looked alike.  I still have one of those masks someplace.  It was given to me by Stan Ploski, when I was helping on the Carberry cars being built and maintained at the Trenton Mack facility on Route 1 in Lawrenceville, NJ.

I used one of those when I first started in my way too short racing career. I later moved to a full face helmet (is that what they were called?) when the pit crew bought me one for my birthday:-)
This is one page of a book I made about my time in racing. (admin-if the photo is too big, feel free to re-size)

Thanks for posting Skip.  I coundn't find one of you with the open face helmet and mask, but here's one with maybe the helmet you said the pitcrew bought for you:

Yes, that's the one they bought. It was orange.

Here's a pic of me at Reading with that strange leather mask:-) I'm sure that I bought that at Tobys Speed Shop when I was collecting parts to build the first car.

I remember cleaning my father's garage out in the early 1980's and that mask is one the things I threw out. I wish I hadn't done that.
