After seeing the restored 707 at the Reading Reunion last week I started to look for 2 photos my father shot at EWS at the end of the 1971 season. Is it possible Deasey had 2 similar looking cars in 1971? The top photo is Chamberlain on a one race deal the week after Stan left. Duct tape covers Stan's name on the roof, and the lettering "BIG DONKEY" is over the wind shield. Also, it's not real visible in this image, but there appears to be a patch on the hood where the engine was mounted forward for tracks that didn't allow huge set backs. Also the headers look like they don't belong to the Cammer. The bottom photo is one week later, final race of the year at EWS 1971 with Opp in the car. No "BIG DONKEY" over the windshield, or patch on the hood and it looks like the SOHC Ford headers. I've also seen other pics from 1971 with or without "BIG BONKEY" on the car. Once again, is it possible Deasey had 2 cars during the 1971 season?

yes as far as i know - he was always building something new back then i was at reading one night for a muilti feayure event when he brought a car in progress to weight on the scales - they crashed the primary car and swapped everything over to the primer car and finished to fill out the nights racing !!! |

As far as i know 2 5 window coupes. 1 had the cammer in, and 1 had a wedge head with a 4 barrel on. |

Same car in both your photos? One says "BIG DONKEY" the other doesn't. Engine forward in the bottom photo. The top of the door may or may not be cut different. Both pics from 1971? |

Not the same car, roll cage forward hoops are different. 1970 1971, not sure which is which. Photos not labled. |

Think there were 2 cars. Stan was real fast in the car with the engine set back. Only thing to beat him was a break down or a flat tire. I think that car was for open no rules. The other car was to run Flemington when it wasn't open comp.or wherever they had to run less set back.best I can remember. |

My 1st memories of 707 with tas sitting in the back seat,car loader than all the rest flames coming when tas backed off. Fan of the donkey since then.
Stan & Paul won a lot of races in the car with the set back dominant, left a few on the table too.
The way I remember it the second car less set back was deck & back was longer & down. When there was open comp show they would run the dominant car & be fast. |

The big engine set back cars really could only run Reading as far as I can remember. Of course they could also run the special shows at other tracks because the rules were relaxed for those races. One car that comes to mind is Taz with the Cozzie Coach. They ran Reading weekly in 69 but Taz came to Middletown with it and won both times he was there. A 100 lap All Star race as well as the ES 200. I didn't see the 707 run much in it's hay day but it's legend was known far and wide. |

EWS allowed the SOHC Ford with the big setback for all thier weekly shows. So, I guess the answer to my question is yes there probably were 2 707's during the 1971 season. |

As a child and to this day my favorite coupe was the 707, I can still recall the 70-71 seasons at East Windsor and the sound of that Ford motor, you could hear that thing even in a pack of cars, one of the loudest modifieds I've ever heard and man was it fast. |

REd Kirsch photo from Reading, 1971. Early in the season he actually had the lead in the first feature and first Friday night feature and ended up with flat tires. The opening day race, he had a full straight away lead on Gerhrt when he dropped out (paper said it was a problem with his rear end and he told me a flat tire).....
