You are quite welcome John. My father and uncle went there when they were kids. They both witnessed the board track and the dirt track eras. My uncle witnessed a fatality there of one of his favorite drivers who he was rooting for, and never went to another race ever for the rest of his life. My father took our family to Old Bridge and Wall when we were growing up igniting an over 60 year love that I have for the sport.

Does anybody remember the Woodbridge 1/4 midget dirt track in what is now a park across from the Wawa and Aldi's by the PWY and TPK entrance? Short lived, late fifties. Somewhere I got 8mm film of it my old man took in '59.

I have a vague memory of going a track somewhere in Fords or Menlo Park to watch a friend run his 1/2 midget. One of his friends was running a go kart. I'm pretty sure we rode bikes from Avenel.

Thanks for the link.  It's funny how things are tied together...  If there was no Woodbridge Speedway back in the 1920's & 1930's, there probably wouldn't be this board, and who knows, I may never had become a racefan... Woodbridge Speedway is where my father's dad would take him (when he was probably around 10 -12 years old.)  I remember him telling me some of the names of the drivers mentioned in the YouTube video.

My dad stayed a racefan from then on, and when EWS opened in the mid 60's, he took me there... like his father had taken him to Woodbridge.

The tracks may be different than those mentioned above, but I know that a lot of us on the board here have a similar story of how you became a fan of short track racing.

She I was in 10th grade. One of my teachers took us on a walking tour or where the track was. Not much to see, but there was some heavy cable embedded in the ground that he claim was from the original fencing. And some say the football grandstands are from the track. I don't believe that at all.

My grandmother told me stories of how she used to sneak in under the fence when she was just 5 years old.

I've also heard it mentioned that the old football grandstands were used for the raceway but it's not true. There is a site called historicaerials.com that allows you to compare and overlay satellite photos from different years, as far back as early 1930's. You can see that the grandstands didn't exist when the track was there, and if it did it would have been in the infield.

In the credits it says the narrator is Gordon Bond sounds a lot like Russel Dodge.

Al Lattanzio was 1985 Flemington Rookie Sportsman driver #77 Pete Lattanzio's father. I asked Pete one time after the races and he confirmed. I told Pete that my father spoke very highly of Al's race driving abilities. Don't know if the Don Church mentioned is a relative of 1958 Flemington [Sportsman or Novice ? Champion] Don Church of ARC Enterprises fame.
