You couldn't do this today. But how much fun would this have been at this age. Have any of you had the good fortune to do this in your youth?

Here is a photo of me taken by my Mother at Nazareth in the late 1950's or early 1960's in Al Tasnady's car.I was a huge Tasnady fan.I have the photo.

While speaking of how times have changed......Does anyone remember when Harmony used to let the fans pack the track with their passenger cars while the modifieds were out on the track?  I was only 5 or 6 at the time but I can still remember standing on the bench seat of my Grandmother's ole Ford pickup riding around under yellow and being out on the track with Taz going waving at us as he went by.

Wow, I now remember that Harmony deal! I got to ride in Dick Kutzler's pickup truck for a mud packing session, I can recall him sliding through the turns, fishtailing down the straight, getting passed by race cars. What a thrill. Can't recall the year.  Dick raced a hobby car/late model at Harmony, actually drove his car up River Road from his home about a mile from the track. Thanks for bringing this memory back to me!

Stopped at Canan N.H.Speedway asphalt track, some 20 plus years ago and they were giving rides to kids. The cars most used were street stocks or four cylinders. My daughter wasn't enthusiastic about going for a ride but my son thought it was the greatest thing going for a ride in a racecar.

My twin has a home near Canan and he shared some images of the practice you saw.  He said he was astonished at how fast they went with the kids onboard.

Bill Brennan once told me that he flat towed his famous #5 race car the 20 miles to Vineland Speedway each week.  He said his race car was loaded with local kids needing a ride to the track.

I felt fortunate to take my VW Beetle around Wall with my 5 y/o twins. It was their Friday cruise night deal.

Sometime in the early 60's (when Nazareth still had the old covered grandstands) we went for an early season race (I seem to remember it being Easter Sunday) when they allowed kids to ride in the cars. I got to ride in Bill Wimbles #33 coupe with 3 other kids. I was just like the kid in the top photo looking out of the opera window only I was on the outside. When Bill was at Motorsports signing his book "I'll Never Be Last Again" a few years back, my brother told Bill about my experience that day and Bill said that he remembered it well. My brother bought me a copy of the book and had Bill autograph it and Bill added a note telling me he hoped I'd enjoyed the ride!

I remember those times well.  Easter Sunday at Nazareth.  Easter Egg hunt in the infield & rides in the race cars.   My brother & I rode in the 16J Elton Hidreth.  Our Dad knew him from growing up in Salem, NJ.   We use to race at Hatfield Speedway,  about 8-10 miles from our shop in Ambler, Pa.  Around 6-8 years old I would go to the races by myself with my Dad towing the race car.   I remember 1 night after the races, everyone staying after & drinking some beer.  When it was finally time to leave, some guys lost their ride home.  I ended up riding home in the race car on the trailer sitting on the lap of our driver, Eddie Bryant.  It was smashed & I was scared that he might throw me out of the car on the way home.  My Dad said "Don't tell your Mother about this or you'll never be able to go the races again!"

One Saturday night in1975 when I was 9. My Fathers wrecker threw the timi chain. So the Racecar pushed the wrecker to my Uncles house. My teenage neighbor worked the gas, I was on the floor of the Racecar and my Father was in the wrecker. It was a loud ride for sure.

Talk about tap dancing on a mine field ....chezzzz what could go wrong, can't believe a track owner would be this stupid not to mention what is wrong with the parents  and the drivers sticking their necks out doing this.

I know I've told the story on this board before. I got to ride on the back of several modifieds as a kid at US 13 (Delmar) back in the late 70's. Dave Kelly, Bobby Walls, Ronnie Paulson were kind enough to let some goofy kid catch a ride. My favorite ride was when John Kozack gave me an extra trat taking me around the entire track solo. What a great treat for a kid. I'll never forget it. Would like the chance to thank him again.

This is me in 1966 or 1967 at Lancaster Speedway riding with my favorite driver #22 Billy Rafter. They would pull two children's tickets to see who gets to ride with a driver. The kids got to choose which driver that wanted a ride with. Look at my left hand on the steering wheel.

That is really cool... Thanks for sharing that and having the newspaper clipping to go along with the great story.  If you've been a fan of the sport from that day on, we now all know why!
