The broken TOY belongs to Joe Luzi. I just saw him running his sprint car in Florida during SpeedWeek on Flo. |

How old is Joe Luzi by now? He was quite a bit older than me, and I'll be 63 next week. Didn't realize he was racing again, I thought this crash was the end of his racing. |

It was Joe Zuczek #50 that I watched on Flo in a sprint car.
I thought that Joe Luzi had a couple of more bad flips after this one in the rookie feature. He dumped the red #21 and then flew over the 1st turn fence during a three car flip with the #23 and #265 in the TOY car also.

Ohhhh, okay! Yep, Joe is still racing, started in 1979 with me in Flemington rookie division. As for Luzi, he did have at least one more bad crash in this car, the triple flip when he sheared a pole off in first and second turn. Former Brenn King car that he finally scrapped. |

There's a racing history of 4 generations with the Luzi Family: http://www.3widespicturevault.com/50spics&vitals/a07.17.04_132_LUZ_RUP_0051_1.htm The link above is John at Ruppert Stadium in 1951. Joe drove the "TOY" car and also a red #21 as mentioned earlier in this thread at Flemington in the late 70's/early 80's. Garrett drove a SS Sprint at New Egypt/other in the 2000's. Matt drives the #7 at Bridgeport in the Crate Division. Stop by Joy Auto Parts on Rt 28 in Green Brook, and talk racing the next time you need auto parts as Joe, Garrett and Matt are usually not far from the counter! |

Picture of the #6 David Pearson in Cotton Owens' Dodge back when "Grand Nationals" started out as production cars (or at least bodies in white). |

I was in that rookie feature with Joe (1981). A moment I'll never forget. When they threw the red. I was stopped about 50 yards from his car and seen the helmet rolling down the track. All I could do was pray it was only his helmet. When I saw him climb from the car. I thanked God he survived to race another day. |

Joe Luzi son was racing at Bridgeport recently, had a yellow number 7.I went over to talk to him about the car.I wondered if it was a former Bill or Donnie Wilson car. He wasn't sure, replied never heard of them. |
