We left this image on the large side so you could have a close up look of the Wally Marks #1 Coupe.

That's driver Larry Taylor in the photo - Flemington - 1974

Other drivers were known to have driven Wally's little coupe, but I remember Larry as most often being the driver.

Never considered it to be one of the best looking cars out there, but it sure was fast.

This is what is lacking in the sport these days...originally . A one of a kind owner and car. The guy was waaaay ahead of his time kinda like Weld and Yunick .

Whats the tank in the window for? Some kind of oiling system? Whatever it is, doesn't look to be in a safe place. and am I seeing a coilover and a standard coil on the left front?

Looks like an old school oil mist breather tank that connects to tha valve cover. I could be wrong but I think the coupe had junkyard coils in front with adjusters. I remember seeing this thing getting nailed hard in the front in late '74. There was a Gremlin after this which may have been the same redone car, that had coilovers.

Pete Madsen drove it a few times.. He told me it had no seat just some plywood to sit on and belts held you in place...NOT FUN...Wow.

I love the way the front door post splits the header and the door cut short to accomodate it.

The door modification may have been an early attempt for an aerodynamic advantage. It would not win a best appearing car award, but look close -everything about the chassis was "right" for a dirt short track Modified at the time.

In the 1st photo, looks like Red Coffin's #22 coupe.  I believe that was the hot rod that spelled out the number, "Twenty-Two" on the sides.  Scott Ely

I never thought the door bent in was for aero, more to help cool the engine.

Didn't Frankie Schneider win alot of races in Wallys cars back in the 50s??  Wally has to have a record of longest running car owner?  Anyone know how many wins he had as owner/mechanic?

Howie, I don't know if Frankie drove for Wally, but Wally Campbell won a lot races in the early/mid 50's driving Wally Marks owned cars.

Yes, the cars were a creation. I worked at Carver's Auto Parts with Mary Marks. I think there were actually 2x4's in the frame rails. Wally did a lot of creative things to his race cars. Best of show was not one, but they could go.
