Just watched John Hunter Nemechek's burn out at Martinsville on Youtube as I didn't watch the race.  Let me start off by saying I'm not a big fan of NFL celebrations or Nascar burnouts.  To me, the players are celebrating for something they're paid to do (and rather well), like score a TD or make a defensive play.  In Nascar, its just so blase, as everyone's been doing burnouts for years now.  Its old hat, and apparenting could be a safety hazard!  My boys say, (referring to the NFL) "Dad, you got to get with the times."  Well, I'm a Giants fan and root for them.  I don't root for opposing players because I don't play fanatasy football.  I like it when a player, no matter what team he's on, makes a tremedous and just hands the ball to the ref. I think that's classy.  I guess my boys are right, I don't get it.  When it comes to Nascar, I don't care and don't watch it like I use to.  The trucks still what interest i have left for Nascar.  Scott Ely

P.S. Please understand that this post was a great therapy (venting) session for myself. I hope I didn't offend any 3Widers with my words.  NFL and Nascar, I couldn't care less!

I also agree with the above comments . Hated the burnouts from the start & now they are getting old . A real abuse of expensive equipment.  IMO , the " Polish Victory Lap " is a class act for celebrating a victory .

I wonder how long it's going to take before we see drivers having lung issues from breathing in this toxic smoke. Seems counterintuitive to have all these air filters in these cars and then sit in that smoke huffing and puffing after a race. Just ask Rick Mast.

I agree 100%, be happy and move on. In the NFL it was Mark Gasteneau who started it all. In racing it was Alex Zanardi.

They are doing it for the fans!  And most fans find it ridiculous.

But the kids love it! Both of them.

We say the poor fabricators and body guys have to fix it, but they now have a job.

Talk about dumb and dumber...  how about when Fox has their camera guy run out on to the track to stand a few feet away with the hand held camera to make sure they capture the excitement of the magical burn out, all up close and personal for us...

One of these day's we'll hear Larry McReynolds saying, "I baleeeeeve that was a hunk of a Goodyear Eagle tyyyyyyyyy'er that just hit the cameraman in the hay'ed."
