It's been a fun few years watching the younger Cup drivers run multiple short track series especially on dirt, but after Alex Bowman's recent injury and Chase Briscoe's hand injury, I bet the owners start pulling back the reigns.

Don't forget snowboarding too..... Undecided

I remember Al Unser missing some Indy Car races in the early 70's with a broken leg that I think he got riding a motorcycle.

It's a tough call as there are a lot of ways to get injured, and Sprint and Midget cars are definitely on that list, but I think you're right Kevin, I think you'll see less cup drivers racing other series.

Rick Hendrick would'nt let Jeff Gordon run sprints and midgets after he was signed.

Racers are racers, invincible until it happens.  Gary B. almost won indy for Penske, 10 to go. Syracuse wreck fired 3 days later, but loved hitting the cushion in a usac sprint car.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Kyle Larson.  I think before the season began Gibbs told Bell no sprint cars or midgets.

Was watching a Youtube about local dirt racing a couple of days ago.  The show was about Cup drivers who do other forms of racing.  He mentioned the Briscoe and Bowman injuries and how their injuries affect their Cup career.  The host mentioned some interesting points.  He said that, the Hendrick team seems to incourage the outside racing activity as its giving additional exposure to their cup drivers and their sponsors.  He added that, with the cup current rules, you can sit out some cup races and still have a shot at the championship (provided you have a win).  Prior to the playoff system, an injury that would prohibit a driver from driving would almost certainly kill their title chances. He referred to Kyle Busch's 2015 injury that lead to him missing multiple races and then winning the championship.  Personally, I'm not a fan of the playoff system.  During the show, it was also mentioned that Joe Gibbs Racing has infroimed Christopher Bell that he can no longer drive open wheel cars.  I found the show entertaining and informative.  Whether the host's comments were based on fact, rumor, or his opinion, I do not know.  Scott Ely

I believe Larson's contract allows him to run other forms of dirt cars as he publicly said he wouldn't sign any deal that would stop him from running other cars

Steinhouse was asked about it over the weekend and was asked if he would stop driving sprint cars. His answer was "I'll be at Kokamo this week

you can't stop them from living

Elliot broke his leg snowboarding. Are they going to stop them from skiing too?

They can and they do. Whatever is in that contract and you sign, they can.   You'd be amazed, in all of sports, what is in a contract in the "can't do" section.  Racing is one of them.

This could actually go the other way too... There are some cup drivers that probably are seeing how many "hungry" drivers are out there in undercard series/other that are ready to take their seat if something was to happen to them.  Chase Elliott is a former Champion and Alex Bowman has a few wins, but if you're a marginal driver, and get injured and someone else gets in your seat... it's gotta make you ask, was it worth it?

My thoughts are that Kyle Larson is a unique talent and maybe I have seen a grand total of 5 like him in my lifetime.  That's it.  Five.

Other cup drivers in similar equipment (Hendrick, other) are seeing him run Midgets, Sprints, Late Models and more, and thinking that is what is making the difference.  There egos are probably saying "If I ran a bunch of other races/vehicles, I will have the same results as Kyle Larson"... and they should have that attitude because if they don't, they probably shouldn't be racing at that level.

While risking their safety racing other series may help other drivers get better, it's not going to turn them into Kyle Larson.  He's just that good.
