Always love seeing what was under all of that body work. Really a work of art considering most of it was hand made. Don't think CNC machines existed. One more thing, at the speeds they ran those drivers were brave!

I'll guess pre 1973 with the right side fuel cell. Love the tape measure on the left side. Giant rear wing.
Carry on.....

Never bet against you guys..... Smile

Here's a picture from possibly the same batch of negatives, and although the car Dick Simon is sitting in below is different than the car in the above photos, I think that is Dick's helmet with the #44 hanging on the right side mirror, written the same was as the "4" is written on the car in the photos above.

There are some other pictures in the batch where Janet Guthrie is in the above car, so my guess is that Dick was involved in her champ car efforts, at least specifically on this day at Trenton Speedway.

Dick is in the car that Janet Guthrie drove at Trenton, he worked with her and the Rolla Volstedt (sp) team helping her sort out the car.

Ill say two different cars from two different years. Compare top and bottom photos.

Roll cage different. Rear wing dual mount vs single. Wing looks smaller in lower.
Different intake runners. Air intake by drivers head vs upper pic behind RF tire. Look how close the guy in lower is sitting to cockpit. No side tank. Fuel tank looks like behind driver in lower. (after 73?)
Janet was there in 1976. No Indy car expert here. Compare pics. I'm thankful you took pictures. Thank you.

As you were.......

Didn't mean to imply that they were the same car.  Definitley two different cars, one #44 and one #17.

The reason I posted the 2nd picture was to tie in Dick Simon since his name was mentioned as the driver of the #44 that was referenced in the pictures at the top of this thread.  It may not have been clear, but wasn't trying to say that it was the same car in all pictures.

The picture with Dick Simon in the car is the #17 that Janet drove, although Dick had his helmet with the #44 hanging on the right side mirror.

Here's another one that I found from that same batch of the car (#17) that Dick was sitting in, but this time, Janet's driving:

I'll post some other photos in the future from what looks like was probably a test day at Trenton with Janet Guthrie.  They're not dated, but perhap its from 1976 as you mentioned...  Does anyone know if she ran at Trenton in an actual race and/or more than once?

Thanks for the info.

She finished 15th in the May 3, 1976 Trenton race won by Johnny Rutherford. Was her first Indycar race.
