I guess I'll go first.I watched Fonda (Flemington North) on Flo. It was a good race.Toay I watched the replay of the New Egypt feature on YouTube.Another good race. Then I watched Nascar. A very good race. Not sure the finish wasn't an Earnhardt move by Hamlin or just a racing incident.

I got to 2 new to me tracks this past weekend. Attended both as a spectator. Fri 5/5/2023 Lernerville 3/8m banked clay oval . Fab 4 show for $18 adm. Approx car counts, 30 410 Sprints, 20 Late Models, 20 Pro Stocks?(more like Limited Late Models) and 14 Northeast style Modifieds. Likes: good competitive races in all divisions all night long. Only a few minor wrecks, and one minor sprint flip, driver was ok. Good seats, good lights, good public address system, knowledgeable announcer. Nice food stands ; adequate rest rooms. Track was a little rough in the turns due to all the rain, but the track crew kept ahead of it. Drivers seem to actually fight for the high groove going into Turn 1 and rim ride it. They ran the whole show in approx 3 1/2 hours. No dislikes.

Stayed overnight for Sat 5/6 Jennerstown full half mile slightly banked oval. $10 adm $5 to park. Approx car counts: Wheelmam Touring Street/Pro Stock group from Ohio 23 cars for $25 hundred to win 50 laps. Late Models 16 Street Stocks 18, E-Mods 9, Pro Stocks 16, Chargers 7, Fast 4's 14. Likes: excellent huge Grandstand plus a small drive in on the back stretch for tailgating. Good PA and announcer, variety of concession stands, adequate rest rooms. Excellent lighting. Excellent racing -only 3 minor crashes and a couple of other spin outs during the whole show. No real dislikes even with the $5 to park still only = $15 to get in. They even gave me 1 free complimentary admission tic for any remaining show this season. It is now my favorite asphalt short track ahead of Stafford and Thompson. Drivers showed much respect to each other in all of the divisions. Preliminary warm ups and qualifying started at 2. The Main show started at 4 (I arrived at 3:45) and ended approx 9:30 which is on par with how most other asphalt short tracks operate especially with 7 divisions on hand. Great crowds both nights. It appears that short track racing is alive and well in Western, PA. I will not be back to either one anytime soon, 6-7 hours travel one way for each track from NJ. I am trying to get to new tracks this year.

Travelers Rest Speedway- SC. Participant. The facility is not bad. Old but not rundown. Parking lot seemed alright. Restrooms were acceptable all night long. They have an 11:30 curfew so the promoter kept things moving. Racing was completed before 10:30. Too many divisions, they ran 6 local classes plus us. A very strong crowd in attendance. The pits were good enough. I've seen far worse. Not enough Porta-pots. The first 30 minutes of the ride home was terrible. Dark roads thru serious hills with barely visible lines on the road but ya can't blame the track for that. If this place was nearby I'd go to watch. Why not?

I feel bad for OCFS. Went as crew in the pits. Super Dirt Series race.

Here they schedule a Super Dirt Series race for a Sunday night, not on a holiday weekend and school is open.  Hmmm?

They have a two division show with 55 Big Blocks and 54 Crates. Great fields of cars.

They have beautiful weather all day.   THAT'S WHERE IT ENDS.

Super Dirt Car is using a new practice and qualifying procedures, a bit confusing. They also use My Race Pass instead of Race Monitor, which is not user friendly.  Only real thing I like about Super Dirt was their complete show format, you always knew what you had from 5 o'clock on.

One groove, dusty race track, no passing in the heats and the fast cars start up front. Maybe 225 fans in the grandstands and match that in the drive in.

8 pm: light, but scattered rain. Cancelled at 8:45. Stops raining at 9. Home by 10:40.

Going back? I love OCFS and that's the ONLY reason I would.  Should have went to Holland with Ed!

They do not get many fans for a regular Sat nite show either. It is really ashame since Halmar (Chris Larsen) has put a lot of money into the old gal. Maybe they could try a 2 for 1 admission or even a free adm nite. Sorry to even think it but the handwriting is on the wall for OCFS. It will be a shame to lose an over 100 year racing facility. Perhaps we could petetion the Governor of NY State to declare the Fairgrounds as a National Historic site.

Started my weekend by watching some USAC and WOO action from Eldora Friday night, there was some awesome racing at the Big E, only drawback was we had to keep switching back and fourth between flo and dirtvision, not a big deal though.Saturday would find me behind my camera at New Egypt Speedway, what a beautiful Saturday, the Grosso`s really have New Egypt back to the early days, the vibe is back, this past Saturday was the largest crowd that I have seen in many years. There was alot of racing on the card so it was a long night but with the beautiful weather people didnt seem to mind. The car counts were very solid with I believe, 27 mods, 27 crates,20 four cylinders, 23 MASS sprints and four Wall Stadium Factory Stocks showed and ran a feature. The modified feature saw heartache for D.J. Hunt as he had the field covered till the last lap as mechanical gremlins reared there ugly heads.Danny Bouc had a great battle with Billy JR AND HE WOULD GET THE WIN.....i REALLY HAVE NO COMPLAINTS, NEW EGYPT IS REALLY HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, stop by on a Saturday and see for yourself....sorry caps button got stuck, peace out.

Went to Bridgeport with Mike Thompson, as he was running a NEWS car there. First race with the old surface back. I have to give credit to Doug Rose and crew as they made the right move. Good, conpetitive racing all night. Modifieds were in the high 15 second range at the end of the feature. we finished 3rd, which was good for first time out. Definately going back.  Only dislike was $45.00 to get in pits. They advertised $35.00 with license, $40.00 without.  When I questioned the cost, I was told "everything went up, deal with it."  Not very fan friendly, imo.

New Egypt as a Fan in the stands

What I liked - Good field of Mass 305 sprints, Modifieds, and Crates. The heat races were entertaining. 4 bangers were not bad however not enough Factory Stocks. The change to the track was a big improvement over the prior shape. Nice dark clay and no dust. Carber was hooked up with the 305's. Bouc was lucky he passed Pauch Jr. with about 3 to go just a few laps before the leader broke, given Bouc the Win. Godown was in a bad heat wreck and dragged out the backup car. He had a respectable finish for starting in the back. Kenny Laureno won his heat but dropped out early in the feature.

What I like to see improved - Waiving Checkered Flags and caution at the same time. To only decided to make a  restart to finish the race.  Grasso & Gowdown tangled, with Ryan ending up on his roof. Both cars suffered heavy damage forcing them to run another car later in the night. It could have been avoided except for a bad call.  Then in the 305s feature on the restart, it caused one driver to go from 5 to 7 place.

Another area to improve was lining up the 4-cylinder feature and the track had only one car come out and wait. Plus a few minor things the show ended up over 4 hours at that point I skipped the Crate feature and left.  (These are not major issues, that can be worked on )

Going back in a month - Absolutely

Watched about 5 minutes of the Cup race with 25 laps to go, I put the news on instead.

Went to New Egypt.  Watched the trucks via DVR.  Like my main man "Don", I caught about the last 50 laps of the cup race.

New Egypt LIKES: As was the opener, a nice (just about) dust free surface.  Getting into the track was better than at the opener as NES had the back ticket booth (in the parking lot) open.  The various divisions all had decent numbers and ran fairly enteraining heats.  The sprint feature was pretty good although it ended with heartbreak as the apparent winner (he had a good size lead)had motor trouble with, I think, 2 or 3 to go.  The modified feature was also enteraining but also had a heartbreak moment as race leader D J Hunt had troubles, again with 2 or 3 to go.  The scary moment of night was a heat race crash invloving Ryan Godown and Justin Grosso.  Apparently Godown initially wasn't moving around in his torn up hot rod for a minute or so (or thats what it seemed like).  Give him a lot of credit as you would never had known he was involved in a nasty wreck earlier.  He started last (24th) in the feature and finished a fast closing 3rd in the feature.  Also for me, I had the pleasure of meeting Buffy Swanson.  She is the author of, in my opinion, a great book on Billy Pauch Sr.

DISLIKES:  I think NES could get their heat races out a little quicker.

SUMMARY:  Overall, NES put on a show that was worth the admission.  It was nice to see the Grossos rewarded with a very good size crowd.  Scott Ely

Where:  New Egypt (Modifieds, 305' Sprints, Crates, 4 Cylinders, Factory Stocks)

How did you attend?:  Specatator stands - $27

What you liked:  Great racing, biggest crowd in years for a Saturday night show.  Great atmosphere.  The place definitely has the Grosso touch as the grounds/other are neat and well presented.  Track surface very good.  Lots of side by side racing in all divisions.  Lots of surprise finishes.  Announcer provided information during yellow flag/in between events which kept fans engaged in the program.  Intermission (including the porkroll and bicycle giveaway) was very well received by fans.  Fan friendly order of features with the Factory Stock and 4 Cylinder Features completed before intermission, the Modified feature up first right after intermission, followed by the 305 Sprint feature, with the Crate feature being the final of the night.

What you'd like to see improved?  Figure out a way for victory lane cermonies to be enjoyed by more than those standing on the track that unfortunately block the view of the paying spectators.

Consider bringing the driver out closer to the flagstand for the interview and have the folks on the track stand behind him...  The victory lane interview should be exciting, and is a great opportunity for a driver to bond with fans, but the excitement of the moment is not being maximized for most fans now because it is difficult to see the winner when blocked by those standing on the track

Once the interview is over, the driver can then return to the car and the photographers can start snapping away then.

Other:  Consider lowering the mic volume during intermission.  I want to hear what is going on, but I think the volume is set at the same high level as when there are cars on the track which means you end up having to yell at that person sitting next to you just to have a conversation.  Intermission is a good time to talk to those around you, but not when you're competing against the PA at max volume.

Are you going back sometime in the next month?  Yes.  If New Egypt had fallen out of your Saturday night race places to go, it's time to put it back in the rotation!
