This week I've decided to do just one driver. He's one of the nicest, funny, approachable people you will ever meet. Not to mention a hell of a driver too. He's non other than the great Sammy Beavers. As always, please share any Sammy stories or picture s that you have.

Great pictures as always Lenny. I don't know Sammy as well as some of you but I've watched him drive since 1969. He has been in a lot of cars over the years but has always gotten the most the car had to offer. He was a threat to win any race he was in no matter where it was. He was a pleasure to work with at Syracuse in 1980 when he put 73 on the front row. |

We didn't do much dirt racing in 1980 because I was trying to concentrate on asphalt. When we decided to run the big race in 1980 it was a week and a half before we had to be there. We wanted to go with our best chance to win and I knew I wasn't the guy at that point. After calling Gary and Billy O (they were committed already) our third call was to Sammy Beavers. Pete Harraka had worked with Sammy in the 112 sprint car and said he was a good guy to work with and of course we knew he was a great behind the wheel. |
