This week I've decided to do just one driver. He's one of the nicest, funny, approachable people you will ever meet. Not to mention a hell of a driver too. He's non other than the great Sammy Beavers. As always, please share any Sammy stories or picture s that you have.

Great pictures as always Lenny. I don't know Sammy as well as some of you but I've watched him drive since 1969. He has been in a lot of cars over the years but has always gotten the most the car had to offer. He was a threat to win any race he was in no matter where it was. He was a pleasure to work with at Syracuse in 1980 when he put 73 on the front row.

Hey Anthony, how did that combination with Sammy come about? With all of the drivers that had more Syracuse experience.

We didn't do much dirt racing in 1980 because I was trying to concentrate on asphalt. When we decided to run the big race in 1980 it was a week and a half before we had to be there. We wanted to go with our best chance to win and I knew I wasn't the guy at that point. After calling Gary and Billy O (they were committed already) our third call was to Sammy Beavers. Pete Harraka had worked with Sammy in the 112 sprint car and said he was a good guy to work with and of course we knew he was a great behind the wheel.
