With Father's Day coming up in a few weeks, it might be a good idea to throw a few hints out there...

If you're looking for a light, but very interesting and enjoyable read, consider the new Ken Schrader book "Still Racing" just released about a month ago.  I think most folks who like short track racing have always paid attention to Ken's career.  Reading the book gives you an insight into how driven he is to continue to enjoy racing, but specifically, to enjoy it on his terms, which isn't always the way the rest of the world probably expects...  I've never met Ken, but reading the book makes you feel like you know him, and if you had the chance to hang out with him for a night at the races, it'd be something you'd never forget...  A lot of good one liners in there...  A great read for all the Ken Schrader fans out there and for those who will soon become Ken Schrader fans after reading "Still Racing!"

Coastal 181 Releases New Book by Auto Racing Icon Ken Schrader

Newburyport, Mass., March 27, 2023—Motorsports publisher Coastal 181 announced today the release of “Still Racing!” by Ken Schrader with Joyce Standridge. This is the second book by the team, featuring tales from the extraordinary life of the NASCAR-and-short-track driving star. It is the latest in an extensive list of popular racing books from the publisher.

In his 52-year career, Schrader has won hundreds of races in all kinds of race cars through 48 states and across Canada, but it is his zeal for life that cemented his place as a fan favorite. In his new book, Schrader tells of unique incidents such as the time he set off an onboard fire extinguisher to preserve a win, and why he refused an inherited win when the first finisher was disqualified.

What makes Schrader singular in the racing world is how he has applied an impish sense of fun to nearly everything off-track as well. Only he could have integrated a couple of unwanted, muscle-bound “guards,” sent by a friend, with the backwoods racers from whom he was supposed to be protected. They all parted pals, as so often happens with Schrader encounters.

While “Still Racing!” shares behind-the-scenes of Schrader’s 29-year NASCAR career, there are ample examples of why he has engendered so much respect as a short-track racer as well. The book also delves into his personal life, including the impact of various family members, long-time friends, and a serious illness that almost no one knows about.

Schrader’s first book, “Gotta Race!” released in 2006, ranked as the best-selling auto racing book for several years. “Still Racing!” is priced at $29.95 and can be ordered online at www.coastal181.com  or by calling Coastal at 877-907-8181 toll free. The website, updated daily, includes over 1500 other motorsports books and DVDs, as well as hundreds of photos and racing commentaries.

I'm pretty sure the only state he never raced in is Rhode Island. He bugs Lenny Sammons to run another indoor event there so he can accomplish it.

I think Hawaii is also still on the list of states he hasn't raced in - yet....

Kenny's raced in 48 states and many tracks in Canada.

An interesting point of the book is how Kenny found a way to make decent $'s along the way throughout his many years in Cup racing, even in rides that he knew were mid packers to worse, but it really helped to keep the wheels on the bus so that he could continue to do what he really enjoys, which is traveling the country in search of that next short track event.  I found that interesting because I think when a lot of drivers are done in cup racing, that is it as far as racing goes...  For Kenny, it never seemed like that was the plan.  He's a short tracker through and through!
