Been watching a lot of races, and there are some outstanding racers out there. Who do you classify as a "clean" driver?
Definition of clean for this purpose - drives with minimal contact.

For sure none of the current "cup" drivers,They remind me of the old Larry Mendohlson Islip Speedway "World Championship" demo derbys that they used to have on Wide World of Sports.The only thing missing is a stick that they had on the side of the car that the driver used to break off when they could'nt go any more. My choices for a clean driver would be Buzzie and Howie. |

Not a fan of his wife, but Mike Mahaney has to be one of the cleanest drivers out there.....almost to a fault. |

Uncle Tom you are 200% correct...He needs to take some mean pills and he would win alot of races..He has given up quite a few wins by being Mr Nice Guy...Car is always prepped really good but hes not agressive enough when car is off just a little...Hoping he outgrows it...HtH |

Do you think the car owners that he has driven for, short of his Dad, appreciate that he brings the car home in one piece every night more than loathe the lack of wins due to his non confrontational style of driving ? I think I know how Buzz Chew feels about it, but few have your insight . |

Uncle Tom it goes both ways.. Some owners are happy you got 5th and were just riding around waiting on the car and track to get right and others dont care what it looks like after the feature as long as you were battling for the lead... Here is a fact for you... Rios R10 was a mess after we won Windsor on the belly pan and beat Horton and Dave Kelly... They were so happy we worked all night to go to bridgeport the next night..Was running 5th ater starting 14th and ran out of fuel with 5 to go.. A piece of sharp body tin was rubbing a return line and emptied the tank.. Frankie was so happy he paid me for 5th.. Not many owners do that.. Also Ace lane could not keep that picture in stock... I think it made the cover of East Windsors weekly Magazine.... Sorry this is so long winded but a great storie and fun times...HtH |

Regarding "Saturday Night Racers", Buzzie Reutimann was the cleanest I ever saw. Funny story about Buzzie and Frankie (Schneider) at the Nazareth 1/2 mile. During a feature restart, leader Buzzie washed up the track almost taking out 2nd place Frankie. Shortly there after Buzzie slows a bit allowing Frankie to take the lead. During the next (and last) restart, Frankie goes just wide enough to make sure Buzzie doesn't beat him out of the 2nd turn. Frankie won, Buzzie finished 2nd. Regarding cup guys, Mark Martin comes to mind. Scott Ely |
