I'm a little late on this, but if you got out to the races this holiday weekend, or watched something worth telling folks about, let us know!

If attended in person, let us know how you attended (fan/other), what you liked, suggestions for improvement, and if you'll be going back to that track in the next month/soon.

Went to New Egypt Speedway.

DISLIKES: There may have a been a good reason for it but, the actual racing (heats) was a good 30 minutes late in getting started.  The pre-race actiivties were a little drawn out for me.  I am not referring to NES's honoring our nation's freedom and the military personnel who preserve it.  That portion of the pre-race activities made me proud to be an American.  NES's announcers do a great job of keeping we race fans informed of the drivers and race cars.  But, this past Saturday, they were a little long winded at times.

Finally, I heard rumblings when it was announced the modified feature would be the final event of the night.  It didn't matter to me since I usually stay for all of the races.  But it does make it easier to leave NES when the crates are the last race.

LIKES:  Overall, the racing was pretty good through out all of the divisions.  The surface was a little dusty but very racy.

CONCLUSION: My "dislikes" take up much more space than my "likes".  BUT overall,  I enjoyed my most recent visit to NES as well as my previous ones.  I will definitely being going back.

Scott Ely

Again, for me, NES has far more POSITIVES than NEGATIVES.  I forgot to mention that I owe NES a big THANK YOU for your notifying the fans when racing is cancelled on 3Wides message board.  I've always wished that other tracks would do the same.  Scott Ely

Tried to watch Bridgeport on Flo Saturday but for some reason the feed always locks up on me and sends my tv in the cyberspace abyss. Not sure if its the track, my phone, or the tv's fault, but I can never get it to play for more than 5 minutes. So I gave up and switched over to Fonda on Flo. Joined in just when they were starting the sportsman feature. I figured great! Perfect timming, and then spent the next 40 minutes watching them try to get 5 laps in under green. They finaly gave up and threw them all off the track and brought out the modifieds. Good race, and the track was in pretty decent shape. Track still kind of reminds me of Flemington.

Sunday watched USAC wingless sprints from Lincoln Park. Joined in right when the "C" main started. When it was finished they turned the top 4 finishers right around and sent them out for the "B". That was at 8p.m. so i figured the show would be over by 9 because you alway hear the jibber jabber about how the midwest tracks never do any track prep during the night. I then spent the next 45 minutes watching some old farm tractor crawl around at a snails pace and till the entire track. All the while watching flo show 2 grown fat men buzz cut each others hair in front of the granstand crowd. I then realized why dirt track racing has the redneck hillbilly stigma attached to it. WHAT A BAD FRIGGIN LOOK FOR ANY TRACK! After suffering through that torture they finaly rolled out the "A" main and of course it was a snoozer.

So after torturng myself for roughly 4 hours of flo my only conclusions are.......Every damn track officail and wrecker driver is overweight. And dirt track racing will never come out of the dark ages. I mean really, on Independence day weekend during intermission, you can't do something a litlle more classy then shave 2 fat mens heads!

Where did you go, how was the show?

Went to New Egypt Speedway as a fan in the stands.  Cost $27.00 for adult ticket, start time 6:45 Modifieds, Crate Sportsman, News Sprints, 4 cylinders and Rookies graduation night.

Likes – Not going to rehash everything, no complaints with the Modified and Sportsman feature events. The track surface was decent, for the most part it was an enjoyable night out.

Dis- Likes:  The actual start time as mentioned in Scott’s post.  Why have fans show up early to see racing to sit for a half hour instead?   Since when do tracks give out diplomas to Rookies? Billy Pauch, Ken Brenn, and other Rookies never received diplomas as far as I recall.  I guess everyone deserves a participation trophy nowadays.

If you’re going to do a graduation ceremony, please let us know, so we don’t sit there bored for a ½ hour.  Next time please start the ceremonies earlier and start the actual racing at 7 pm. You could have considered doing it during intermission, that would have been better.

Suggestion - Please check the guardrail where the poll was bent on the front stretch. Looks like the steel posts holding the guardrail in place were broken in spots.

Going back this month – Probably the racing and everything else is great.

===================================================

What did you watch? About 20 laps of Nascar throughout the entire cup race. Nice to see an outsider win. The rain caused a long delay to start the race.  If not for the delay, I would probably have watched a lot more of the race.  Rain screwed up the whole race on Sunday.

Suggestion:  If you have a safety related question/comment, please email/other the track so that they are sure to see it.  Be specific so that they can check it out.

Pa Speedweek. Pretty much a disaster this year. Opening night at Williams Grove rained out early, we went to Lincoln and BAPS second and third. Lincoln night 4 rained out early. Brother Randy made it to Grove this past Friday, but they returned home Saturday morning based on forecast, while Charlie Rodenbach and I drove out to Port Royal. We paid to get in and saw engine starts, then it rained out. We decided to head home ev though we had a hotel roo, rather than stay for Selinsgrove the next day. Good decision because both Selinsgrove and Port Royal rained out. Port Royal is using today as a rain date. We didn't go due to having our kids over for a cookout. Planning to use rain checks at Port Royal this coming Saturday.

Heading back to Port Royal.  We got hot laps in before the heavy downpour.  Observed what appeared to be a rather large funnel cloud over the mountain. Saw on the news at noon they confirmed a tornado touchdown in Dauphin County, not far from Port.  Guess we got lucky.

Watched over the past few days on Flo:

    USAC Sprints at Bakersfield
    Dirt Cup at Scagit
    IRA Sprints at Fairbury
Lucas Oil Late Models at Lernerville (3 days with some rain thrown in there...)
Lucas Oil Late Models at Muskingum
    IRA Sprints at Plymouth
    7/1/23 Bridgeport
    Tezo's Sprints at Atomic
    East Coast Sprints/Modifieds at DIS

Note:  I never watch Flo Live, and never watch on my phone.  I like to go to the replay section and watch events from there... usually watching the headline division's heats, and always watch the headlining division's feature.  Can usually watch the heats and the feature in about 30 - 40 minutes or so.

Indycar Mid Ohio:  FF/Watched practice, qualifying and the race via Peacock.  Simon Pagenaud had a bad wreck during practice after brake failure.  Walked away from the crash but was not cleared to race the balance of the weekend.  You forget how fast they are going until something goes wrong.....

Nascar Chicago:  Recorded and fast forwarded through the cup race.  Good ending with the first timer winning over the series regulars.  Race was more interesting than I thought it would be.  Not much passing for a big chunk of the race mainly because there was only one dry line, but by the end of the race, business picked up.

In case you're wondering, no..., the lawn didn't get mowed yet! Undecided

=================

Attended New Egypt as a fan in the stands.

Likes:  Very good racing in all divisions, track in good shape/very fast, good size crowd, very good atmosphere

Dislikes:  Late start.  This hardly ever happens at New Egypt...  I know I'm not the norm on this, but I like to show up when the first race is going green, and had read "6:45pm green flag", but the first race didn't start until closer to 7:20? (They often start a few minutes early.) Maybe they were working in the track or something, which caused a late start for the pre-race ceromonies (?).  It happens.

I prefer not to have the modified feature last.  When a show starts on time, and moves along well, folks that want to stay and maybe go in the pits will do so.  Otherwise it just makes it tough for everyone trying to leave at once.  Also, some new fans, (especially with kids), won't be around to see the headlining event which lessens the chance that they'll be back.  If you watch as the evening rolls on, you'll see them leaving once the kids get a little tired/other.

Announcer volume too loud during intermission.  Impossible to have a conversation with the people sitting next to you while seated in the bleachers.  Intermission is a very enjoyable time for a lot of folks and NES does a great job with their giveaways/interaction with fans at intermission, but it shouldn't be at the expense of others who might want to sit in their seat and talk to those around them without having to yell over the PA volume.  Lowering the mic volume will not take away from those involved in the giveaways/other activities.

Suggestions:  Consider a new Victory Lane proceedure so more fans can enjoy, and also help to build a bond between spectators and drivers...  After crossing scales, have winning driver park on frontstretch right under the starter's stand.  Have driver get out of car and stand on the spectator stands side of the car for their interview and keep everyone else on the other side of car until interview is completed.  If there is room, figure out a way to have the interview right at the starter's stand, or possibly on a raised platform right on the specator side of the starter's stand.  Once winning driver interview is done, driver can then go to his car and have pictures taken, while announcer interviews 2nd and 3rd place drivers, also by the starter's stand, where those that want to see the podium finishing drivers can see them.  All interviews should be concluded by the time photographs are done taking pictures of winner/winner's crew/sponsors, etc., so if done correctly this should not take any additional time from the show, and will add a lot of fan value.

Going back within a month:  Yes.  It's a really solid show.  If you haven't been there yet this year, do yourself a favor and get there in the next few weeks and enjoy a great show.

Joe, you could do like Jeff Gravatt does at Wall. He enjoys the night than goes to work at Victory Lane and does a great job doing it.  Setup Victory Lane than back to your seat.  Once the template is set it will take care of itself hopefully.
And yes,  I know where this is going!  Lol

Concerning modifieds running last at New Egypt,I witnessed several families leaving early because their young children were ready to go home. The parents looked quite dejected but they probably had no choice.

The folks they have handling it now do a great job.  They just need to move it closer to the stands so that it has more impact, and promotes a stronger driver/fan bond, which unless you're only going to the races just to see your brother in law race, is the reason why folks go back to the races week after week.

For me running the modifieds last didn't bother me.What I think tracks should do is rotate the support divisions around the headline division. Why should one group always be last.
