Pocono Raceway has done an amazing job marketing their races. They don't clobber you over the head with pricing. Motorhome was $250 for three days and includes an all access (except pits), two tickets to everything.  They kind of open their grounds and say "Enjoy" in a good manner.  The infield camping was completely sold out and is quite enjoyable with bands on the big stage and a lot to do and see. I have been going off and on since 1977 and "What a difference"!  We left late Saturday afternoon after the truck race, but seeing the crowd on TV Sunday, it was very good.  A little refinement, which you can see they are working on under the main grandstand and Pocono will be a top facility. They are kind of the outlaw track in NASCAR terms, being privately owned.  They are really investing back into themselves and good to see they are making it, because there were a few very lean years there.  The once a year race may have made the difference.

Had an enjoyable race sitting with Uncle Tom in the main grandstand.  I think it was $35 for general admission, which meant sit wherever you want except the seating under cover. Tom saved us second row from the top, out of the sun. A few cold beers and laughing at a few of the drunks around us. Poconos site lines basically suck being the longest front stretch in NASCAR, but what you can see, especially pit road, is good.  You got the Truck Race, Cup Practice and qualifying and the Xfinity race for $35...Great Deal!

Will I go back, Yes.  Only if Stewie can finish a race there!!!

My son Ryan Patterson found his way to victory lane for the 2nd week in a row and third time this year in the Heavy Honda division at GSQMRC at Wall Stadium on Friday night.

Two of his big sponsors Grandpa Larry and Uncle Wayne Patterson were on hand to see him drive to the front!  At 11 years old he knows the value of performing when the $$ people are in attendance!! LOL

...If Larry's involved you better watch out that he doesn't swap out the engine for some Ford power!

As mentioned earlier, made the annual trek to Pocono for the truck race. What I have always enjoyed and what the track needed to turn a profit wasn't always the same thing. I always enjoyed next to nobody in the stands for practice, qualifying and the actual race for the trucks. It was always nice to stretch out wherever you wanted. This year, the Saturday crowd was as big as I've ever witnessed.....good for the track !!

Pocono, being what it is, I can't really think of one thing that they can improve on. Everything seemed to be behind 15 mins or so all day, but no big deal as it was early in the day.

I enjoyed the job that Dino and Earl did on the mic...kept us informed, without rambling on and on about useless crap that no one cares about. (Think any DIRT show).

Already looking forward to returning next year.

Kevin and I sat next to this hucklebuck broad that carried no less than 14 items in her bra. During one of her jaunts to the local grazing area, Kev asked her if she had enough room in that bra to fit a bag of popcorn and if so, could she kindly bring one back with her....needless to say, we're still waiting for popcorn.

I haven't been in over 30 years, (time flies) but I said all along they put the grandstands on the wrong side of the track. Quite some time ago I suggested that they should've designed the track so the stands are in what is now the tunnel turn. I think that would've help with the view immensely but that bell has been run. People love to slag on Pocono but I always enjoyed going there. Well the race where Bobby almost died wasn't very good but you know what I mean.

(Said the same thing about the stands at pocono should be by the tunnel turn many years ago.)

Went to Wall, 4 of 5 divisions had 10 cars or less.  2 divisions came down to the stripe for the win.  Blewett sure has a lot of fans there.  He won the sportsman feature much to some fans displeasure. Don't like to see modified drivers cherry pick.

Adding my thoughts on B Foder's post above, I had as much interest watching going to watch Jimmy Blewett run sportsman at Wall as I would of had watching Kyle Busch run a truck race.  I'm not saying others should do it, but my move was just to find somewhere else to go/something else to watch, so I did.

TV/Streaming:

Watched Indy Qualifying and both Races from Iowa

Caught up on a bunch of Lucas Outlaw Late Model races and USAC/Tezo's/High Limits open wheel events on Flo Racing.  Watched (DVR'd) NHRA at Seattle.   Also watched the AJ Foyt "Legends of Racing" also on Flo.

DVR'd and watched the end of the cup race at Pocono.  Same ending as last year with Denny the Donkey wrecking somebody for the win.  Only this year he couldn't blame somebody for justifying what he did since Ross Chastain was nowhere near, so instead he denied that he did anything wrong.... perhaps not realizing that the race was being shown on TV, with multiple camera angles..., and that there were ten's of thousands of people in the stands who just witnessed his winning move.  I don't think anybody was buying what he was saying, so while Denny continues to find his way to victory lane, he also continues to lose more and more fans everytime he opens his mouth.  I think he's trying to be the new Dale Earnhardt Sr, but you can't fake cool... and you can't fake swagger, so even those who never liked Earnhardt Sr would probably agree that Denny should stop trying to take on that role... It's just of... well, awkward.  Look for a mustache, and a pair of Gargoyle sunglasses next...

Would have been interesting if the person doing the on track victory interview would have asked Denny, "Is there a reason why after doing your burnout, that you parked so close to the inside wall for this interview?"

Attended:  Heard that Jimmy Blewett was going to run sportsman at Wall, so made a late Saturday afternoon decision to go to New Egypt.

New Egypt - Attended as a fan in the stands.  Modifieds, 305 Sprints, Street Stocks, 4 Cyl's and a feature only for Crate Sportsman.

Liked:  Track surface excellent, good racing.  First race went green a little after 7pm, and the final checker waved around 10:30.  Nice, solid 3.5 hour show.  Good energy/Great atmosphere.  Possibly the best crowd that I've seen there for a Saturday night show in over a decade.

Suggestions:  Nothing new that I haven't offered up here before....

Going back within a month:  Yes.  If you haven't been to New Egypt yet this year, try to get to show and soon and see what you think.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday: Billy Pauch Open House.  Great weather day to have the event - Saw a lot of people that  I hadn't seen in a long time.  Without the mall shows, and without a lot of us in general not getting out to as many things as in the past, it was a great day to see some great racing folks.  The event was well attended.  Saw Tommy Kosch, Nick Lombardi, Kenny Niece, and a bunch of other long time 3 Wider's.  Saw a lot of real happy folks carrying out cool race car panels after their winning #"s were called.  Thank you to The entire Pauch Family for having the hosting the event, and welcoming all.

Went to New Egypt as a fan in the stands. they put new Clay down last week, no dust where we sat. The prior few weeks NES had been very dusty. On the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Car page, one of the drivers said there was absolutely no tire wear! I would encourage anyone who has not been there lately to give NES a try one Saturday night.

Nascar Cup race watched most of the final hour. It's amazing with a car stopped on the track. How no yellow flag was flown till Denny crossed the white line to win under caution. If it were any other driver the officials would have thrown the yellow immediately for more overtime action.

Speaking of Wall 3 current and one past Modified drivers finished in the top 4 during the Sportsmen 50 lapper! Between tire and extra fuel costs, plus wear and tear on the car. I would not complain about any regular Sportsman driver that skipped Saturday's race.
