There's another few hundred more if you think about it long enough, and if you include the 60's & 70's.... and if you include both dirt and asphalt.

Today, there are probably less than 3 modified/sportsman "owners only" that trailer their car in for somebody else to drive.  I guess that's because back in the day we had "tinkerer's" who liked to tinker, and racerss that wanted to race.  There was room for both and the economics of the sport allowed for both.  Now it's pay to play, (rather than tinkering/homebuilt/etc.) and there just aren't that many (any) guys that are willing to stand back and write checks just to have their name on a car while somebody else wheels it.

Really sad when you think about it, because a lot of us were drawn to the sport for both... Those that could "tinker" and those that could "wheel it!"

New Jersey and Pennsylvania covered pretty well. That is the tip of the iceberg. Between New England and the Mid Atlantic states you could probably count another 100 or more

Great topic. This has been on my mind for a while now. The Art Of The Car Owner has been mostly retired. There were actually two types of owners. The ones that were just pretty much check signers are one. These owners didn't really know how to check the stagger never mind work on the car during the week to prepare it for the weekend. The other wrote the checks and also worked on the car, loaded it, and trailered it to the track etc. I'm not rating them better or worst but just showing the difference. As I said I've been noticing the trend of pay to play. I guess this just gets noticed by me because I lived with a car owner that took that honor very seriously. I honestly don't know why being a owner is trending down.

This was a great topic, there were a lot of good owner driver combinations over the years.  One duo that comes to mind, might have been just for one night, was Cal Peters and Tas.  I believe TAS got Cals only win. Also Bob Pickel and Loren Holland, Bob got Lorens only win.

From the 70's up, Wall Stadium had Dick Barney and Tony Ferrante Sr., as mentioned previously. Tom Durkin with Gil Hearne and Thom McCann. Howard Harvey with Jamie Tomaino and Charlie Kremer Jr..  Bill "Whale" Graham with Tony Siscone, Jamie Tomaino, Tom Baldwin, and Tony Hirschmann. Frank Corvissiuer (Frenchies auto Body) with Tony Hirschmann. Chet Konopacki with Dick Lewis and Rick Sendzik. Don Ling with Tom Comerford and his son Donny Ling Jr. and grand daughter Shawna Inghram. There were plenty others, but these were the owners I remembered who were in for more than a couple of years.

Than you had the family teams of Charlie Kremer Sr. and Charlie Jr. and earlier Al Wardell.  John Blewett Sr. and John Jr, John III and, Jimmy.

"Pops" Gibbons was Joseph Kelly's step dad.  Pops was one of the many 50s-60s racers that worked at Delaval Turbine on Nottingham Way in Trenton.  Not gonna mention any names but I was told that a lot of metal tubing and welding rods somehow wound up in the building of alot of hot rods that ran Windsor and Flemington back in the day. BTW, Pops was never mentioned in any Delaval stories that I heard.  Getting back to owners, don't think Sam Battisa, owner of the SSS and 99 driven by Ed Farley and Bob Malzahn was mentioned.  I also don't  think anyone mentioned Woody Johnson, owner the 68 that were driven on pavement by Pete Frazee and Dave Hulse, and then at Reading by, I think, George Sleight.  Woody was from Birdsboro, PA.  Scott Ely
