Thursday afternoon I was up at the VA in Ann Arbor, on the way home on i23, I saw several NASCAR rigs headed north. If not for seeing those trucks I wouldn't have known there was a race there this weekend. Don't know who is in charge of the PR for these events, but they don't seem to be doing a very good job of getting the word out.  Wasn't that long ago when all the carryouts and gas stations had banners and flags and such letting everyone know that NASCAR circus was gonna be here racing.

Well living here on lake Norman in the heart of nascar land you don't see anything about racing here anymore. It was everywhere in the 90s and early 2000s but not anymore. Nobody cares. So if you don't see it here chances are you won't see it there or anywhere else. Might be the reason the stands aren't full and nobody watches cause you can't find times and channels easily either.

Actually Pocono had a record crowd. As far as not advertising the race......If you did some critical thinking you might be able to understand why they don't need silly banners flying everywhere like they did 20-30 years ago. Kind of the same reason you don't see phone booths on the corner of every street. All it takes nowadays is one click of your mouse to find out all things NASCAR.

As far as not knowing when and where to find the race on TV.......the start time and network has  alwyas been right at the top of the NASCAR.com home page. If thats to complicated for you.........Just say "NASCAR" into your remote it will even change the for you.

Nice to see that Pocono drew a great crowd.  Personally, I think its because they are down to one (1) cup race.  I thought it always it hurt Pocono attendance when Nascar scheduled their two (2) cup races only about a month a part.  Scott Ely

Years ago when Pocono had a June and July Cup race they drew massive crowds for both. I was usually at both. I remember reading a long time ago that the Pocono races drew different people for both events. Someone at the track said the advance ticket buyers who went every year often picked one and stayed with it year after year. We live less than 10 miles from Lake Norman, less than 30 minutes from Hickory Speedway and about 40 minutes from Charlotte Motor Speedway and it is RARE to see someone wearing any NASCAR apparel unless we are at a race. Just like it is rare to see a vehicle on the road here with any NASCAR decals. We have to go shopping this weekend. I'll keep an eye out and get back to ya if i see anyone wearing a NASCAR shirt or hat, but NASCAR isn't big here in NASCAR Country.

I agree Kevin..I moved here in 2005 and it was truly Nascar Country everywhere you went...No more..Nothing anywhere.. I think it has run its course unless you are a true fan...I watch the free you tube highlights of all the short track Exciting Racing instead of watching someone get taken out on the last lap for a win..not my style..HtH

I was at the Denver (NC) farmers market from 8 to noon this morning helping my wife sell her soaps. No NASCAR related clothing was seen. Interesting side note however. I saw a young lady wearing a Beak Built tshirt so I asked her about her shirt. They build modifieds down here. She told me her dad owns the company. Her dad is David Reutimann. I told her and her mom I used to watch her grampa Buzzie race several decades ago in NJ. They thought that was pretty cool. But that was the only racing related gear I saw. This afternoon I hit a discount mart, a Walmart and an Aldi. I saw a Dale Jr stand up plugging Sun Drop at the discount mart. That's it. I saw an old S-10 with the very dated Earnhardt 3 with angel wings decal on the rear bumper. That's it. So yeah, NASCAR Country isn't really NASCAR Country any more.

Nascar is boring and takes all day to watch it.  Lets make it take longer with more rest breaks for the drivers..Lots of better racing available elswhere.  My 2$

No it's not to hard for me to find what channel the races are on as I can read and know where to look . However the point I was making was that inorder to attract NEW fans you need to make your product known to people who just might be unfamiliar with your product you are trying to sell. I believe that's why we have commercials and print advertising. We see nothing of the sort anywhere here in Nascar land , yes Pocono had a great crowd and I wonder how much taking away a race had to do with it, my guess, a lot.  We will see how long they can hang on with just one big race a year.

As Kevin said people don't care here and I haven't seen any kind of race related merch on anyone in years. We old guys are a dying breed who can say I remember when the place was packed, we now say hey I remember when there use to be a racetrack there .

Stop and think when you heard of a NEW track being built anywhere, bet you can't name one. Why is that , well living nine miles from East Lincoln , 20 miles from Hickory, 30 miles from Charlotte I haven't seen a article, poster, or tv commercial for any racing here for years, why ? If you think the old "If you build they will come " deal works your mistaken, it only works when they know your there.

Thanks for saying the words I wanted people to think about.  Of course those of us in the race game can find where the info is. But most spectators at any event are not hard core (sans nudists) and these people need to be catered to.

I think the younger crowd they are trying to get are busy at a Drifting Event instead of circles or road courses..Most of their events are not as big but are usaully standing room only...I think it was a shock to the leaders of Nascar when the guy from New Zealand kicked all their butts in Chicago.. I thought it was perfect and hurt their Egos im sure..

I'm at the Denver Farmers Market at Denver Baptist Church on old 16 every Saturday from 8 to noon. Look for the couple selling hand made soaps under a red tent. Stop by and say hi. I too see the occasional race car heading to East Lincoln, Hickory or Carolina on Fridays.

Adding to Kevin and DNs take...you guys saw race cars on open trailers I'm sure.. Years ago you would see race cars everywhere heading to the tracks...Closed trailers have certainly added to the lower fan base/enthousiasm.. It would get your interest and maybe go watch somewhere..Now you dont know if its a lawn guy working or a race car... Vinyl on a trailer is nowheres as good as seeing the car...Thats how I grew up..

Your right Howie.  I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a cup hauler going anywhere around here . When I was kid I would ride my bike down to the highway just to watch the cars heading to flemington on those open trailers and hope to get a wave back from the guys in the trucks. Simple times I wouldn't trade for anything .

My favorite way to get there was the ramp truck that Burnett had..Easy to park, took up less space in my dads driveway, and it was the easiest at the car wash.. Let car part way down the ramps and do top and bottom. Winch it back up and go eat...Closed trailers are a pain..alot of cleanup to do constantly...More help is required..Billy Pauch did it right. He built a wash area at his shop so no need to load it back up when done..
