I have not been for years, and I am thinking of giving it a go.  Considering visiting only Sunday, as I am looking to avoid giving up the whole weekend. I have always wanted to watch a race from the drive-in side of the track - something I've never done.

As an aside, it seems every year there are some things floating in the ether about track operations at OCFS for another year.  Out of curiosity has that tamed down or are there still some rumblings about the stability?  Not looking to stir anything up; I am simply not in the know and was curious if there is any merit to the chatter.

Thinking back, I want to say my first Eastern States was 1979 or 1980 - and it's been a few years since I have been on the property.  We stayed with Frankie and the crew and there was someone (who will not be named) running around in an ape costume flashing folks in the twilight hours at some point along that weekend.  Good times...

The best way is some chairs in the back of a pick up, a cooler, a BBQ, and a blanket. Get there pretty early to get a good spot and bring a radio or the truck radio to listen to the PA. It's fun and if it gets dusty or cold, turn around and watch from inside. A scanner too, because they allow radios for that race. You can see more from the backstretch than the front stretch.

Orange County is about as stable as any other race track in the country, but if you're gonna do it, do it soon!

Kevin, last Year the drive in was a weekend pass only. I wanted to go in for Saturday only and they said I had to buy the entire weekend package (didn't happen even though I won the Saturday race 44 years ago lol ). Might have changed this year though.

You also have to buy french fries with a hot dog. lol.   Most of that was imposed by the former driver/promoter. Hopefully changed because there was plenty of open spots in the drive-in last year.
