I'm getting down to the Nitty Gritty of signatures on the tire. I purposely left a few guys until the end. Today I'm posting Alan (Slideways) Johnson.

Her's a little story back from whenever. Can't remember what year but Augie Lieber brought his dark brown sedan 57A( old Merv Trechler car) to Flemington Speedway for Alan to drive. Augie always had B&M Speed Show do his motors. Which I believe B&M Speed was Alan's dads shop. Not sure about that. I remember Alan showing up with a bunch of his crew. They couldn't get into the pits because they were all under age (15 and 16 years old). Somehow they let them in the pits. I remember one of the his crew coming back to get Alan to show him Ken Johnson's car with the chrome bumpers. They were amazed the quality of the cars that were racing. When speaking with Alan he said " Heck we paint our cars with house paint". Remember these guys were from upstate NY and i guess back then their cars were fast not pretty. Always remember that from the good old days. |

Ricky visits the board from time to time, and although he took a few years off from racing, and then drove a vintage car for a few years, he's been running a #57 Wingless Spring (NEWS I think) at Port Royal, other.
We asked the question a few years ago and the guys on the board came up with what I think was about 10 driver's back then, so it's probably even less now....
Back then I think we came up with Horton, Cozze, Eurich, Jeff Hoezler, Bill Wilson, Buzzie..., Alan Johnson... Stan Ploski was running a NES sprint back then too, but he really came out of retirement to do it.
Can't remember the rest that we came up with back then, but it's definitely not a long list. |
