Msg ID: 2799876 Question: Famous Sports or Entertainment Personalities That Actually Raced
Author:3-Wide
11/29/2023 3:00:59 PM

Your challenge:  Provide just one (1) or two (2) answers that fit the following:

Tell us someone (past or present) that participated in stick & ball sports such as Baseball, Football, Basketball, (other), or maybe is/was known from the entertainment/music industry, that also spent time behind the wheel as a driver/racer.

Not looking for those that competed in the Toyota Celebrity Races in Long Beach/or other similar "celebrity" races only...  Looking for those that are known mainly because of their participation in sports, or the entertainment/music industry, that spent some time behind the wheel in competitive racing conditions.

We're not looking for those that became car owners (Joe Gibbs, Michael Jordan, etc.,) but looking for those who actually competed in an event/events where they were an actual driver/racer.

Start off by providing only one or two names, and if it we hit a deadend, will ask for those who were sitting on a few more names to provide them before we close out the question.

Remember, please provide just one or two names max from the sporting/entertainment industry to get us started, and we'll look to add more in a few days after more folks have a chance to see the question, and to give it some thought and hopefully respond.

Have fun thinking about it...

3Wide Smile

Bruce Jenner raced in the 1988 Niagara Falls Trans-am race. The track was built around the Niagara Falls Convention Center. The TQ midgets raced in that convention center for almost 20 years. Now Seneca Niagara Casino is in the Convention Center now.

JOY RATLIFF Obituary

RATLIFF, JOY WILKERSON Joy Wilkerson Ratliff, formerly Gladys Joy Wright, born on August 4, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, passed away at the age of 81 on August 24, 2011 in San Diego, CA. Joy had three children: Craig Carter (Marcia), Candice Carter Ph.D. and Kim Weitzman (Larry). She was the grandmother to Joe, Samantha, Alexander, Mitchell, Cris, and Anthony. Our mother graduated in 1948 from Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego and then attended the University of California, Los Angeles. Joy became an entertainer in movies, television, U.S.O Vietnam, then race car driver and eventually an author. She was proud of her involvement in the Marine Corps League, San Diego Swing Dance Club, and Kiwanis. Needless to say "mother/grandmother" had a colorful life. On Saturday, August 27th, at Unified Veterans Memorial Church at Balboa Park S.D, Joy's name was read with those of the veterans who passed away in the same month, including Navy Seal Team #6. We wish to thank the Veterans Journal. Joy was cremated according to her wishes. A military burial for her in San Diego is scheduled for October 22, 2011 at one of the national cemeteries.

Robert Herjavec from ABC's Shark Tank.

"A passion of Herjavec's is car racing. He competes in the Ferrari Challenge.[54] Herjavec competed as #007 for The Herjavec Group Racing team in the North American Ferrari Challenge Series, where he won the Rookie of the Year title in 2011, after winning both races at the season-opener in St. Petersburg, Florida and following up with wins in Laguna Seca Raceway and Lime Rock, Connecticut.[55]

In 2012, Herjavec was selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2012 Honda Indy Toronto. He is also an avid car collector with several rare cars in his collection."

Heres a paragraph i pulled from his bio.

Back in the late 1990s you may have seen Storms and not even known it. He starred in dozens of commercials for Kahn’s Hot Dogs, Little Debbie Snacks and Kix cereal, to name a few. He went on to appear in movies with stars such as Whoopi Goldberg, Drew Barrymore and Sarah Jessica Parker.

I'm sure a lot of actors did the So Cal sports car racing as James Dean did. Also, those Toyota celebrity races sparked the racing bug in a few people.
