How about the purple room?   (Just askin'!)

Yea after my second or third win I was invited up to the purple room to hang out and drink with Paul Kuhl.. Wendy relayed the invite from paul to me..I wanted to take the 3 or 4 guys that helped me that night and all week in the shop and treat them also..I would not have won any without them.. Wendy relayed back to me that only I was allowed..  SORRY PAUL, I dont treat my friends like that.. Enjoy your drinks without us...We are too good for your silly room anyway. We are going to the CIRCLE DINER and get treated like Friends...Never got invited again...We won 7 (1 was A&B Bennys car) at the square anyway.. Also ! ministock win in Danny Casper/Jay Atens car, a fast hotrod...HtH

Purple room yes. A bit creepy!   Lol

I got to go in the Crow's nest. In the early 80s I was announcing and doing PR work for the VW Sprint Club (called United Sprint Car Club at the time). They had an afternoon fair date show with the modifieds. I remember during the feature there was a flip on the frontstretch and Bill Singer yelled to me, "Say red flag and ambulance to the frontstretch." I just thought, "I'm messing up in front of Bill Singer. Oh no." 

My first and only time up there.

Great story Howie!  Wendy Kennedy also was my invite.  After the Nascar Modified Tour race, Tony Ferrante and I were invited up along with our wives. We were up there for awhile, than the officials and others started coming in. It was like a "club" for them. Paul was nice to us as he sat on his throne and enjoyed his friends engaging in the nights activities over a few cocktails.  Had to get out of there as it got a bit "stuffy" in there. 

got invited to the purple room after our opeing night LM win in 91 . i was never a in the klick kind of guy, but felt out of place in that room.  the joke to us LM guys at the time was come feature time to the fans it was time to get a hot dog and chicken. had that same feeling in that room. had a beer a beer and we left.

Was never in either the purple room or crow's nest. My brother Randy was in the purple room once (girlfriend at the time father was a friend of Kuhl) Not a real fun experience he said. As for the crow's nest, several of us remember that day 20 years ago when we lost Bill Singer. Bill was doing interviews at the Flemington Department Store in sight of the grandstand and crow's nest. The was a break in the interviews and a woman walked up the Bill and asked him about it. Bill joked that he should ask Paul Kuhl if he can have it moved to his backyard so he could sit in it and reminisce. The interviews resumed and 20 minutes later Bill was gone, while interviewing Ken Brenn, Jr.
