Hope both drivers were ok after one from between turns 1 & 2 at Flemington in the mid 70's: Nelson Ivins images/Provided to The Vault by Nelson Ivins and Bobby Pickell Jr.
The front wheels on Red Coffin's #22 (bottom picture) confused me when I was trying to figure out the proper sequence for the above 5 pictures, but I think they are correct from top to bottom as posted above. Comments welcome. |

Yea... that was the question I had when trying to put them in the correct sequence of the pictures, but if it is all the same accident, which I'm pretty much 100% sure it is, then somehow, they squared back up as you put it.
I put the last picture last because of the damage to the left front shock/shock mount visiblein the last 3 pics, the smoke trail, and the mark on the track trailing from where would have been where the two cars made impact and from where the other car probably still was. |

I'm thinking it might be the 44K of Jack Kibblehouse. |

I'm not sure about the 2nd car, or even the 2nd car's#. I was thinking it might be this one, or one like it, even though this picture is from sportsman action and the picture with Red Coffin was definitely from a modified race.

Skibee was the car owner. Had identical sportsman and modified. Mark Skibee drove the sportsman, Harrison drove the modified. I talk to Ron occasionally, permission to share pictures with him? |

When the radius rods in the front end break, the axle is left to fall either forward or backward. When that happens, the spindles are no longer in the vertical position, they are in a horizontal position causing the wheels to lay flat. I'm sure it was just momentum that stood them back up. That front end is definitely broken in the last shot, I think your sequence is correct Joe ! |
