Not a fan of NASACAR anymore but I was working in Florida on Monday and finished up early. Fou nd a cheap ticket online and went to the race. Thought I'd share just a few of the photos. For the race being held on Monday, I was mazed at the crowd as the place was packed!

Looks like a good seat Shawn.  Maybe Robert's Tower?

We used to sit right around there for the Twin 125's back when they meant more than they do now, and also for Friday when they would have the Race of Champions and the Modified Race, and then we'd sit in Campbell Box for Saturday's 300 and Sunday's 500.

We were in Florida Monday as well and my son talked us into going to the 500 for the first time in a long time. The facility is beautiful and very comfortable for the fans with wider seats , more and nicer bathrooms and escalators that deliver you to your seat with very few steps to climb . We sat in section 419 (no more sections named after the great drivers of the past ie Roberts or Campbell - I guess todays NASCAR fan wouldn't even know who those guys were).

With all that being said, the racing is still boring. IROC like parody among the cars has them all stuck in huge packs and you sit there waiting for the big wreck to come which it did and basically determined the outcome of the race .

Kinda glad we went but I doubt I'll ever go again .

I totally agree Roger. The race was lackluster and no real racing going on. At least I can say I experienced the Daytona 500 at least once in my life now. I wish I found the escalators you are talking about because I walked a LOT of stairs to get to where my seats were. Lol. Much like you said, not sure I would go again.

I never thought I would say this, but its the first time I can remember not even watching the Daytona 500.  Don't know how they can call what happens now racing.

I've been to the big track several times. I last went in 2020 as I wanted to see what it looked like after their recent $400M upgrade. They tried too hard. The exterior looks like modern art that will look out of date by 2030. The common areas where you buy refreshments and whatever are polished to the point where it doesn't feel like you're at a race track. Felt like I was at a modern NFL or NHL stadium. The land around the track also doesn't feel like you're at a race track. Lots of your typical restaurants and retail chains. Nothing special. My wife hasn't seen the new look Daytona so I suppose we'll get there eventually, but I prefer Talladega.

They did an amazing renovation, hopefully it will hold up to time. It is a bit "colder" in the feeling of it, but that's like all modern renovations. The worse ever is the new Giants Stadium! The escalators get you up levels pretty quick, most are towards the center of the building and elevators that are available to the general public instead of just the suites. Plenty of food stands, but no one available to work them. Credit card only, so if you don't bring it, you're not eating. Tips can be cash though...lol  The big screens are amazing, you miss nothing.

Nice about the Friday night truck race is, you sit wherever you want, you basically go as high as your body will take you. Level 300 and up you see everyting.  We sat in the upper section, 600, and some people we were with were a little nervous. Daytona is huge, you look at it like that's only a couple hundred yards away, when in reality, it's a mile away! A LOT OF WALKING.

Go if you have'nt seen it, it's absolutely worth seeing, but like Roger and Shawn said, you probably won't go back.

They should of spent the 400 million by cutting the banking down like Bennie Parsons always said to do. Widen the inside to 100 foot wide total cutting approx 3/8 ths of a mile off making it a semi banked 2 1/8 mile track. Re-install the back stretch oval too while they are at it

I wonder what was the total attendance on Monday for the 500 was? I'm curious how it compares to MetLife Stadium crowds this past weekend. The temperature was 20 degrees Saturday night. They had 70k for NHL Hockey and 75k plus on Sunday.  Also would like to know the ratings for the two events.

I totally agree with RuCu regarding reducing the banking of Daytona.  Don't really enjoy the "plate" racing anymore, except for the trucks (because of Stewie and the length of the race).  Its sad knowing that a ton of expensive race cars are going to wide up in the scrap yard.  You gotta think reducing the banking might separate the cars.  I know the plate tracks offer the best chance for little guys to win a race but at least they'd have a much better chance of driving (or pushing) the car on (or in) the trailer.  Scott Ely

Aren't you describing Michigan, the most booorrring track on the circuit? I agree there's a big problem with the superspeedways but fix the cars. 50 years ago they qualified 9 mph faster than this year. You lose drafting partners you are screwed because the cars are dogs running by themselves. When the big wreck happened I saw Larson come in for tires because he ran through all the debris from the wreck. When they got the green with 4 to go I knew he had no chance to move up. The current rules package needs to be seriously reviewed because they just flat out can't race.

There's something very wrong when you're watching a race and the announcer says, "Wow... what an awesome block!"

I'm not making that up....

It's sad that what was once thought of as possibly the highest levels of racing in America is now little more than blocking and wrecking, and surviving 'till the end.  This goes for Cup, Xfinity, Trucks... and don't even bring up what a sideshow ARCA has become.

Give me more Sprints, Midgets and Lucas Late Models, and I'll continue to forget all about Nascar's "highest levels."

The dirt track Sprints, Midgets, and Late Models have for the most part resorted to dirty slide jobs in order to pass. Not like the old days when drivers respected each other and raced side by side on the straights and into the turns. I don't think I ever witnessed a slide job pass at Silver Spring back in the day in the Super Sportsman division.

Michigan only has 1 distinct straightaway, Daytona has 3. Maybe Daytona should just make them race thru the backstretch chicane and add another chicane entering turn 1. Agree that any other alternate config would be better than what they race on at Daytona now.

Describe it however you want, it's the most boring track on the circuit. I stand by my original opinion, fix the cars.

Maybe they need to change to flatter tracks and less aero allowed on cars and REMOVE THE RESTRICTOR PLATES...That is what has killed the racing on super speedways...No motor and cars stick TOOO Good...Put the driver back in the cars....Or go total remote with Battery Powered BIG RC Cars...My last sentence is probably what Nascrap wants anyway....Woke racing.....and then it will just go away..
