Attended New Egypt SDS Show as media/guest/.  Didn't roam around much....  Stayed in the bleachers and watched as a fan in the spectator stands. 

Very well run show.  Good size crowd.  The show was run at a very good pace/very little wasted time.  Strong field of modifieds with heats (4), as well as a consolation that only took 4, with provisionals filling in after that.

Likes:  Probably the best 75 lap feature I've ever seen, with no tire wear and with the top 5 drivers all having a shot at the win.  No need for a fuel stop.... No "MayPop 75" where everybody get's flats, as is very common on most extra distance modified races these days....  I don't think there were any flats, and if so, it was just one or two and it might have been from contact.  There was a lot of good green flag racing with just a handful of cautions... but not so many to break the the momentum of the event.  The race held your attention from beginning to end.

Darren Smith led almost all the way but Anthony Perrego got by him with one or two to go and took the win.  Sheppard was always lurking, as was Ryan Godown so it was one of those races where you just never knew what was going to happen.

Also liked that SDS has a trailer with a big screen TV set up in the infield that showed the line ups, and a few replays. 

Also liked that it never got as cold as I thought it was going to get!

Dislikes:  Although very smooth all night, the track got dusty.  I heard that the SDS guys like a dry track, and they got it for sure.  Fortunately for us and most in the stands sitting near me, there was enough of a wind blowing on the back of the stands to push the dust back toward the track without getting to us, but it did make for a dusty view of the racing.  I was sitting between turn 4 & the start stand about 8 rows up and never had to put on the clear glasses, but if I had been closer to the pits/turn 4, I would have needed them.

They weren't able to get the balance of the sportsman feature completed due to rain....  Wondering if they had let the modifieds buzz the track sooner prior to the start of their feature (mods feature was delayed about 10 mins due to a very light rain prior to going green), rather than having them follow the pace car slowly for quite a few laps, if it would have saved the 15 minutes they needed to get the rest of the show in/maybe would have been able to get the sportsman feature completed (?) before it started raining more heavily later in the night.

Going back within a month:  Yes.  This was a special show, and I will return the next time SDS is in town.  I also plan on checking out a regular Saturday night show as we get into the season.

agree with Joe hit  it right on the nail , i was in first turn dusty yes  , they pushed show thru exactly as said they were gonna , one of the best races have seen . dont think i will be back there as i have other commitemnts on saturdays but plan on getting to 1 or 2 sds races  , thundermount and big diamond 

Also went to New Egypt.  Have to admit that I wasn't thrilled when I heard that the Grossos were "giving the keys" to NES back to Fred Vahsing.  HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the show was run.  The SDS strong field of modifieds put on a very good show, with the 75 lap feaure being the best race of night.  Unlike 2023, the weather gods looked down favorably on NES by holding off on a steady rain until the early laps of the final event, the crate mod feature.  The track was smooth and fast with the only "downer" being pretty dusty. Since I'm no expert on track prep (or lawn care for that matter), I feel NES should get a pass on a dusty track as it was the first race of the year.  I recall dusty conditions at Windsor for some of their early season shows in the 60s.  Overall, I give Fred, his staff, and the SDS folks an "A" for the show.  I definitely will be attending NES again in the near future.  Scott Ely      

New Egypt Speedway...I think Joe pretty much nailed it...I will add this, I was there Thursday around noon and 3 and 4 had mountains of dirt as some major track work was going on, I left thinking there was no way we would practice Friday as rain moved in late Thursday afternoon and lasted most of the night.I was surprised when I arrived for practice Friday and the track was ready, but very strong winds made practice difficult, we got it in and by the end of practice it was much better.Saturday, again a brisk wind would continue throughout the day and evening but the track was very smooth, yes it was dusty, but the racing was excellent.Dirtcar brought a great field of cars, we had a very good crowd, and the show moved along very quickly, overall I'd say it was a great way to start the season...Harry Meeks NES Track Photographer....I will add this, give the track crew credit the weather conditions were'nt the best but they still gave the DIRT guys the surface they wanted.

New Egypt. Great night of racing with the big blocks. Wind was at our backs. Nice DIRT moved the show along. Though oddly enough when I got home my wet soggy truck smelled like my boat when I pull it out of the Raritan river. 

Made the short drive from Florida to Lincoln....got rained out

Was up there on a trip for some other stuff but sure was dissapointed
