As far as the Harold Dauncey #3, I'm gonna say that photo was from around '94 or '95. At this point in my life, all the years run together and what seems like yesterday was really 30 years ago! That car was a Raceworks that we got from Tony Ferrante Jr that he ran for a year on the tour. It was our last car before everyone hung it up. Best way to figure out the year of the photo was to remember when we switched from running #3 to #66 with the same car and paint job. Story goes that we ran two of the Featherlite/Whelan tour races at Flemington. The first one, we show up, time trial, and get in the show. NASCAR officials come over and tell us that we can't run the #3 on the car because that is the number of tour regular Len Boehler. I spend about two hours clipping white and black racers tape to put #66 on the car, covering up #3 (that door/quarterpanel is still hanging up in my garage). Over the winter we decide we're gonna probably run more tour races, so we permanemtly swtched to the #66. Same car, different numbers. Later on, I bought a louver press and went nuts all over the nose and engine side panels. That would denote the last two years we ran at Flemington, right up to when they did away with the full blown MODS.

Went to paved Flemington a lot until it's closing. My Father lived way closer to Flemington than Wall.

When Flemington switched from dirt to asphalt many fans left swearing never to come back. 

When New Egypt went from asphalt to dirt, did the New Egypt fans feel the same way?

The track wasn't being used and was in danger of being torn town. And.. dirt fans are diehard. Asphalt are more passive, maybe. But, I went to NES on the opening day of dirt on the 1/3 mile and that was only because Wall rained out. I haven't been back since, but I grew up a Wall/NES kid.

John I thought NES was running up until the time the Grosso's bought the track.The weekly show consisted of tar/mad modifieds amsa mini stocks and street stocks.If my memory is correct the midstates communication group was trying to buy the place.I believe Kevin Eyers could fill us in more,since he once had a hand on running NES.

LOL.  New Egypt was tough, mostly due to having a successful track running Fridays, East Windsor, only 15 minutes away and the two stalworths, Wall and Flemington, running Saturday nights. In a nut shell, that was it's only obstacle. Wednesdays in the mid 70's until the mid 80's worked well for New Egypt for pretty much one reason, Richie Evans.  Of course there was 15 other great drivers racing, but because of the NASCAR Modifieds point structure at the time, you had to run as many shows to gain points towards the national championship. Richie Evans would show up every Wednesday, because it was the only track running.

The points changed in the early 80's to the Gatorade Circle of Champions, so Evans and the travelers would only show up for the Circle shows. Than the point structure changed in 1985 to almost what we have now, a travelling series. Now they would show up once or twice a year and coupled with Richie's passing in 1985, New Egypt's decline was in full motion. 1986 to 1990 were tough years.

Mudhops and other events helped it along until 1990 when it closed down.  We reopened it in 1991. Ran some special Modified races and back to Wednesday nights through the summer. We had very good shows because we were always on a time constraint running Wednesdays. Did Ok at best. Go Karts saved us at the end of the year.   Post Reagan years were pretty bad. Came off booming 80's to a recession in the early 90's, hard to run a race track also coupled with Bank issues.

I remember the day getting out of New Egypt. The bank that held the mortgage called me in and said "you're lease was not paying enough." I stopped the conversation by handing her the keys and said "Good luck!" Thank goodness for the Grasso family rescuing it.

Couldn't agree with you more.  I've been to alot of speed ways up and down east coast some have been saved one others we'll never see again.
