Anyone ever had one on a dyno. I kinda always heard establishments on 300hp. But I don't think they were anywhere near that. For Wall they were 258 max, no head porting, and a 1bbl carb. Everyone ran the big early Rochester carb. NES and Atlantic City could run 2bbl carbs and Im sure some more stuff. Islip figure 8 cars were similar. |

Not familiar with the class, what 6 cylinder motor are we talking about? Chevy 250/292 or Ford 300? I have a street rod pickup with a heavly worked over 292 that made 300hp on the dyno. Not sure if what I had done on my 292 would have passed tech in the class your referring to though. |

A 1967 6 cylinder Camaro says 150hp on the air cleaner. TV shows like Engine Masters have all built highly modified 292,300 and slant six'es. Most of them were below 300hp. |

They ranged 275 to 300. 250 Chevy straight six. A 190 cid Chevy head increased the compression. A cheap header and you had what you had. Stock ignition with a coil Bernie Bailey had a good Charlie Weston engine. Charlie took a four barrell Holley and machined it down to a single barrel carb. A real work of art that was legal by rules but the track banned it. Donnie Chambers used a stock type clutch by the rules but it was stock in a Honda. That got him a one year suspension. Back than anything cheated got you a one year suspension. No messing around. |

thanks for the post, john-- chevies when we started the division were 230ci or 250ci fords were 240 ( seperate manifolds) or 240ci (log manifold) plymouths and dodges were(225ci slant 6 's) my engine was a 250ci punched .040 over --built by Ron Buck- he didn't want to go more than .040 because of the close water jackets-- do you know what the overbore was on your dad's & uncle's engines were ?? blessings !! bill |

I don't remember what the overbore was. The last few years my Father ran a Weston motor. It had aluminum rods. His early engines were just cam swaps on a good junker or rebuilt engine. Not much more. I remember Richie Beridino(sp) said he had a rebuilt engine with a JC Whitney cam. That was in like the first full seas of moderns. I just think the induction help back a lot of HP. |
