I think the 3 is the Jim Shaw owned (co-owner of J&J Balancers) URC sprinter with Jiggs Peters driving.

The 22 is George Snider. He bought the car off Steve Stapp after driving it one season. The Boppers son told me that. I sent him the link. He's the John McCaughey of non wing sprint cars lol.

The 3 car was co-owned by Jim Shaw and John Bolander, J&J Balancers was an engine shop that was located in Paterson, NJ. It was called Gasolline Alley. Dayton Ignition was also located there with a bunch of other shops,if you needed any parts thats where you went

I look at every one of those photos and say, why the fuc* would you drive one of those?  In a way I'm glad they did.  Sad how many drivers were lost in all those cageless cars.

There's a great book titled "Damn Few Died In Bed" by Andy Dunlop that covers racing in that era from the perspective of a mechanic/crew chief. I got mine from Coastal 81 a few years back, but I no longer see it listed on their site. It's worth a read if you can find it.

Thanks Steve, I will borrow Franks when he comes up in June!

There are lists on the internet by state and it's beyond amazing how many drivers perished racing.  When I go to EMMR I am blown away how many drivers won on Tuesday and died on Thursday (just an example.) Literally thousands.

Andy Dunlop lived in my old neighborhood on Maynard st. He was crew chief for well known midget driver Wally Stokes who was killed in a car driven by his wife coming home from a race.

Are these at Reading?

The 2nd picture especially kind of reminds me of turn 2 at Middletown, with the wood fence going up the hill that separates the track and drive-in area from Wisner Ave.

As mentioned, there was no info provided with the negatives that these images were created from.

They may not all be from the same location either.  Hopefully you guys will figure it out, or it will remain a mystery....

I remember Earl Halaquist in a black George Nesler #2 @ Flemington 60's. A kid growing up those cars were awesome.

Mid 60's URC show at Flemington. We are hanging out by the pit fence inside of the track by the 1st turn gate before the show starts. Might have been a fair race. Tom Price is driving Scat's #3. His buddies are kidding him and told him if he crashes and thinks that he is going to roll over to hold onto the steering wheel tight and to duck his head down. Guess what happened in warm ups? He whacks the outer boards between 1 and 2 and rolls it. Car was towed back to the pits and Tom walked back uninjured.

Definitely Jiggs and Earl , concrete and chainlink , so much for driver safety, no Flemington shot here, no wood fencing in the lower shots !

Photos 4, 5 and 6 appear to have been taken at Reading in 1968 (using USAC Sprint History 1956-1980 as a resource).  Photo 4, George Snider in #22. Photo 5, appears to be Larry Dickson in #4. Photo 6, Bruce Walkup in Dunseth #1, appears to be Mickey Shaw in Forberg #8.

At the Harmony Speedway on July 3, 1964, the URC sprint cars shared the program with the modified and limited sportsman stock cars. The feature event was won by Lou Johnson.
