I read this interesting story about Doug Hoffman recently. It stirred up some memories of meeting him a few times. I'm sure some of you have an interesting story or two about Doug. Please share them with us.

One of the best to put the helmet on,I was lucky to have many one on one conversations with Doug. Always gave me his time and found him to be willing to talk racing. I was lucky to see many of his 482 wins and championships. Thanks for the memories, Doug. Bill Braga Sr., aka Hoffy Fan.

Thanks for posting Lenny! One of the best and, Bill, think I sat with you when he was inducted into the DIRT Hall of Fame and you gave my son and me the name of a great reataurant on the way to Rolling Wheels that evening.

Quick story!  I took my young son to East Windsor one friday night. He was a fan of Freddy D. in the 303. We watched as Freddy and Doug battled in a heat race for many laps side by side. Doug, who had a rep of being a dirty driver, ran Freddy clean the whole time. He won the heat and the crowd was booing him!! After the races we went into the pits to collect some autographes. We went up to Doug and he signed for my son and I made the comment that " Boy, They love to boo you here" His response was " I don't come here to make friends. I come to make money"

Don't see why they booed him. But don't they always boo winners!

Great indeed! Seamless transition from Small Block to Big Block. Did he ever get behind the wheel of a Sprint Car? My memory is telling me no.

Doug ran a burgundy color sprint car for a short time at flemington ( not sure if he ran it elsewhere) probably around '88 '89ish and as I recall he didn't really enjoy them so he stuck with the modifieds...

Frank A: Doug Hoffman made his sprint car debut at Bridgeport on Oct 21, 1984. He mentioned to me that he was gonna run a sprint car for the first time that weekend and asked me to take some pictures if I could.

I don't recall him ever running a sprint car again. (But I could be wrong about that.)

One and done. Gus Matteo was the car owner. The following season (1985, our first in URC), Ed Wylie picked up the ride after he left his father in law Bill Bauer's 75. Ironically, his replacement in the 75, Charlie Massey, later replaced him in Matteo's 32.
