.... I really wish I had gotten to Pleasantville more than I did.  I was 11 years old when I went in 1972, and only got there a handful of times after that.

What I can tell from these photos is why I liked it so much.  Every car was unique.  Something to like about most of them... maybe something a little wonkie about others, but either way, they caught your attention and formed a memory.   Most were cool... (even the wonkie ones...) and some were way cool!

Really captured the home built feel of the day and of the South Jersey ingenuity that had a whole different kind of feel than that of North Jersey..... (I'm not saying "better" or "worse"... just "different."   )

You could always tell an Atlantic City car when it came to Wall Stadium.  The numbers, lettering and paint were always pretty simple,

The first picture of the coupe reminds me of the #292 driven by Al.  I never made it there or Dorney Park. If they ever invented a time machine, those two tracks would be first on the list. Thank you for sharing the pictures from AC

I wish I had made it there, too. My father only raced there once in 1975. I did make Dorney Park once, probably in ‘78. It was first sportsman, street stocks and TQ’s that night.

I agree about the J32 car being the #24 Cagle replica at Flemings:

Thank you so much for posting these pictures each week.

Like (3 Wide) Joe, I enjoyed the character each car had back then.

What a great memory Winkler75 has.  Thank you for filling in the blanks.

The red #2 looks familiar. Did it run at Wall also? I would've been very little but seeing that image woke up a 50 year old memory.

The red 2 is Wally Weaver.  That’s the car the body completely came off in turn four.  Pretty wild to see it slide off the track to the infield on the roof.

Great photos.  Went there with Chic Ronan a few times in, I recall, the late 60s.  Chic ran his limited sportsman with its dirt tires still on.  I think he finished in the top 10 a couple of times and made a couple of bucks.  Does anyone know if he track still there, or has it been torn up.  Scott Ely

Track closed in 79'. It sat dormant for many years before eventually being developed into a New Jersey Bus Transit garage.

Not Pleasantville...but did Chic Ronan run a number 35 coupe at East Windsor???

Blow up this photo and see the 35 in the second row on the back stretch.

Lee-  YES, When Chic started in 1965 at Windsor his first hot rod was the maroon and white Ford coupe #35.  After several years, he switched to # 16 to honor his daughter's 16th birthday.  He then went with # R-2 in his final years.  I recall him saying to his wife, "Cathy, the kids will never be into racing, so its just you and me".   The "R" for Ronan and the "2" for Chic and Cathy.  They were my neighbors when I was growing up in Jobstown, NJ.  Great people, miss them both them dearly!     Scott Ely

Photo 3: Bob Little in the duck 8. Car was formerly the Harry McConnell #3.

Photo 2: in the background is the #28 Modern Stock of Al Sutherland?, #94 Modern Stock (the name escapes me right now), #9A Sportsman of Jerry Camp, and #00 Modern Stock of Joe Elliott

Was Pleasantville also called Atlantic City Speedway?
