Part of the annual audit of the ARRA, Auto Racing Research Associates website is to take count of the amount of different subjects that are featured on the always growing website of auto racing statistics and facts. That being said...as of today, the website feartures 171 different tracks.....154 different drivers....92 different auto racing series' and organizations.....34 points of interest and odds and ends and with the inclusion of historian Guy Smith's special feature that covers the careers of, currently, 353 different drivers who have obtained a lofty level of competition, that brings the total count of different racing subjects to, as of today.....804 subjects!
Wow...has this thing grown from way back in the early to mid 90's when myself and fellow ARRA Co-Founder Bill Braga Jr. decided to collaborate on researching area auto racing drivers. Its mind boggling!

Correction!!
I spoke of historian Guy Smith’s contribution to our ARRA websites total of different racing subjects covered on our site. Guy alerted me to a needed adjustment to the total of “Centurions” counted for ARRA. Unbeknownst to me...Guy….on his website, also uses the same formula for racing fans as he does drivers (on our site). Without getting to technical, Guy also uses cloud storage as I do with the ARRA stuff. All of Guys files in his Centurion section of the ARRA website, are directly linked to HIS cloud storage, meaning that I need do nothing to keep them up to date. When he updates them on his end...they automatically update on the ARRA website. Because he uses the same cloud storage for both his driver and fan files...his latest files sent to me would indicate a higher number than actual drivers sent because sequentially, all files move up in number in the sequence of numbers and characters in the address of the file on the internet. Thats about as technical as I will try to explain.
Needless to say...I overstated the number of Centurion drivers on our website. I originally stated there were 353 different drivers in Guys collection. Actually, I just added Erin Crocker tonight and Erin marks the 200th different driver now that Guy puts in his files. That means that with the change in the total of Centurion drivers...it drops the total of different racing related subjects on the ARRA website from 804 to 651

And one more correction....Erin Crocker would be the 199th driver added, making the next driver to be added the monumental 200th! |

It'd be a lot of work, but Will Cagle would be a great one to make the 200th! He won at a bunch of tracks, driving many different cars, so I'm sure it would take a lot of effort, but after talking to Will at Fleming's Pumpkin run this year, I can tell that he has a great appreciation for the history of the sport, and he certainly is a big part of that history... A winner from Florida to New York State. |

Joe, Wills research has been ongoing for years to be honest. Both myself and the late Bill Hannah had gotten well into it, but Will was.....and still is supposedly working on a book about his racing career. Why he hasn't gotten it done OR had it written is another story and I will keep my opinion to myself. But I kinda told Will that out of respect for his wishes, I would not finish or publish his career win list before he put his book out so that it would "debut" in his book. However, it has been soooooooooo long and Will is not much closer to getting the book in print...or I'm not even sure its been written yet. The entire project has been turned over to historian Tom Schmeh and is currently on hold until Tom gets around to it. |

Thanks to the ARRA for what must be exhausting research. But it must be fun. A quick aside: I nominated Carl Van Horn for the Belvidere High School Alumni Hall of Fame a couple of years ago and used some research from what I considered several reliable sources for his bio. When ARRA published his actual win total, I was off by a bit of a magnitude! But, in the end, Carl is in the BHS Alumni Hall of Fame, which is well deserved. An ordinary man doing extraordinary things! |
