This weekend's question (suggested by Pee Wee Fan): Name a race car that had some level of success with one owner, (provide car info/#, color, car owner, etc.,) that was then sold to another owner, who also had some level of success with the same car. (Car may have retained its original look, or may of had a new paint job..and/or a different #... and/or a different driver... and maybe even a different body, but was really the same car as that owned by the original owner. (By "success" we're loosely defining it as a car that possibly had feature wins in both versions/for both the old owner/team, and the new owner/team.) 1st Time Around: Original car/owner (#, color, car, driver) ____________________________
2nd Time Around: (#, color, car, driver) ________________________________
If needed (to help more of us remember), let us know the track(s) the car competed at. Also, if there was a "3rd Time Around".... or even a "4th Time Around," please provide that info as well! Thanks, and have fun thinking of a few examples... |

I believe Bob McCullough bought this car off of Bob Rossell in 1973. He won his only modified feature at East Windsor in it in April of '74

Steven - Any photographer info on that great shot of the #89? It actually looks like a John Grady photo, but I don't know what track Bob would have run at that John would have been taking photos at??? |

I meant to post the embedded copy. There's no info on the photo, but I remembered buying it from John Grady at Motorsports many years ago. |

No problem Steve. It looked like a John Grady image, which I was kind of surprised since most of his images were from upstate NY. (I embedded the picture of the #89, and re-posted it into your post.)
Quick John Grady story.... Probably about 20 years ago, I was at a Motorsports Show...Might even have been when the show was held in Fort Washington for anyone who remembers back then, and the website had been up for a year or so (?).... I wondered over to John Grady's Photo Display and was admiring his photos that he had displayed on boards for people top look at/purchase. I think I was a Field Instructor for Canon USA at the time and he told me that he was a teacher (instructor) for many, many years, so between the instructor thing... and the photography thing (Canon) there was plenty to talk about. We got talking more and more, and then got back focused on the pictures and I noticed that many were from NY state, but that there were a few that I recognized as also having run at Flemington/other that I was more familiar with... The next thing I knew, John starts pulling pictures off of his display board, and handing them to me, and saying, "Here's one to put on your site," followed by a sentence or two about the driver...or about his memory of taking that particular picture, followed by, "Here's another to put on your site...,etc.,." By the time he was done, I think he had handed me at least 8 - 10 photos, and a brief story to go with each! John was a great... (let me be clear)... A GREAT story teller...., one of my favorite people who I have been fortunate to have gotten to meet because of this site. |

Another Bobby Rossell creation, the red coupe #4 shown in the Nazareth section of 3Wide's "Forever Young" section was sold to Pee Wee Griffin. There is a photo of this #72 on page 58 of the 60s section. I recall that both Bobby and Pee Wee had moderate success with this car. It served mostly as a backup for Pee Wee. Scott Ely P.S. I think they are a ton of other cars that can be named in this post. If you're not sure that a certain hot rod qualifies as a "2nd timer", research 3Wide's photos. Bet you'll find a ton of em! |

The original Weld car had the longest racing life of all the Weld Cars. It won multiple features and the Small Block Modified Championship at OCFS with the Jeffer behind the wheel. The car was updated multiple times and even had a Coupe body installed till DIRT changed the body rules. Jimmy Horton and Kevin Collins, Gary Balough, and others also ran the car for different owners. Egge/Hildebrandt Pink #9 became the Maroon & White 73 and became the 73 Sportsman car for you know who. This Whip Mulligan car won in every paint job it had. The body was updated a few times but the frame and suspension were always true to original build. |
