Dick Cozze and Bob Pickell had a special kind of friendship.  When Bob became elderly and moved to a nursing home, Dick would drive over and pick Bob up to go to New Egypt.  I think all of us wish we had a friendship like that.   Hank Winecker    ...

When Rich Imlay was confined to a nursing home before his passing, every week I would take him my copy of AARN and spend time with him talking about the weeks racing.

That fancy seat started out as a 55 gallon drum. We cut it into a seat shape, then Bob took it and upholstered it.

What scares me Rick is that it appears to be a metalflake vinyl plastic. If it was ever in a big fire...OH GOODNESS !   Hank Winecker

Hank, you mean a fire the result of the homemade gas tank, situated outside the square tubing roll cage? Not a concern really. Pickell could have made a quick exit as he was not encumbered by a fire suit or shoulder harness.

I believe the # 300 Cozze sedan was renumbered # 80.  There's a photo of the 80 sedan in the 60s section, page 46. I10.27.12_008_PIC_UNK_0060_1

It was #80 after that number was assigned to us at Daytona. If I remember correctly, which we can't count on these days, it also was #27 when Stan drove for us.

This is the #80 the guys are talking about, it is my belief that this same car was leading the first Daniel Boone when the door swung open very late in the race  (Bob was black flagged). They pulled the door off in the pits and Bob went on to finish fifth.  Then next year Stan Ploski won the Boone in this same car painted white and numbered 27.   Dave Innes photo, I own the original,  Hank Winecker

There is a photo provided by Kevin Budden of Stan Ploski and Dick Cozze standing by the white #27 but I can't get it to upload. I also have saved a photo of this #80 almost totaled at Lebanon Valley where it crushed the roof.

Very true ELF30, The movie is SPEEDWAY and I've freeze framed at the right moment. You can even read the Cozze Bros phone # on the car # 80.    Hank Winecker
