Wow 50 years ago? How can that be? Top and bottom pictures, " the thrill of victory...and the agony of defeat". Pretty cool how the sign says Bicentennial blast. Seems like there was more excitement about 200 than there is so far for 250. Or am I just becoming an old grouch? |

Your right about the hype of 1976! I was in fourth grade and that’s all we talked about. TV had the Bicentennial Minute breaks. Our town added a ton of murals and every fire hydrant was painted like a patriot soldier. Great pics keep them coming. Love the Sonic street 60 series tires.

Second Photo down........fender sponsor was Kar Parts in Hazlet. I haven't thought of that place in years! Was one of my "go to" parts houses after Matty's on Lower Main Street in Matawan and 1001 Auto Parts on Route 35 in Keyport. Kar Parts was on Route 36 Eastbound, right after you passed the Holy Family School. And talking about the Bicentennial........the evening of July 4th, 1976 I was an 18 year old kid, manning the Matawan Shell tow truck on the beach in Cliffwood Beach. Had my girlfriend with me and a cooler full of Rolling Rocks! People were parking on the beach to view the NYC fireworks display. My job was to hang around and pull the cars out that got buried up to their axles in the sand. I was pretty busy! |

Working on her third husband with one kid in rehab. I dodged a bullet! What do you expect from a gal who thought a hot date was with some greasy guy in a tow truck? |
