Rick Cozze and I had just finished with college and were racing the original Cozze Coach as a sportsman car, (I was just a helper). Fred Fritchie was our guidance in the Cozze shop. This crash happened in the 4th turn at Nazareth Sportsman action. This is approx. '72 or '73. Once the Coach was totaled, we started work on Rick's new 44 Vega. The Coach sat for a time in their yard by the crusher machine, and finally was crushed for scrap. A very unfitting end to a Legendary car. Hank Winecker photo is from the Easton Express, I bought the paper.

I remember riding in front of the field on the pace lap of the 2007 (I think). It’s me in our 73 and Ricky Rutt in what I thought was the original Cozze Coach. I remember being crushed when he told me the original 44 Coach ( to me the #1 Sedan of all time) was in fact crushed for scrap. |

Sadly, it was scrapped. At the time it was just another crashed race car. Who knew at the time what some of the old cars would come to represent, or what memories they would instill. The replica was built to be a very exact copy. Luckily, Frankie Schneider had a 35 Chevy trunk back body available and his help with other items made it a do-able project. Terry Ziegler (as far as I know he is still current owner) was kind enough to bring it to Dad's memorial service and I have to say, it sure evoked some memories. |
