The first picture is from Daytona (mid 70's) when they ran the modified race on Friday of speedweeks.

There was an opening in the fence in front of the Keech wooden bleachers, way down near the entrance of turn 1.  I kind of stuck the camera (Kodak 110!) through the fence on what was probably the pace lap.  

Back then, my dad and I went for the entire "speedweek." I always wandered down that way on Friday because there was nobody else there as most folks on Friday (that's when they ran the Modified race and IROC race) sat up closer to the start finish line.  (On Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, this same area would have a lot of people, but on Friday, it was all mine.  Pretty cool having a section pretty much all to myself as a 14 (?) year old.... thinking about how much better it was being there rather than sitting in a classroom in NJ!
