When my Dad put his 1st Sportsman together back in the late 60s it was him his uncle Don Patterson & his dad Pat Patterson funding the team so they chose "3" as their number. They flat towed the car from Skilman NJ behind a 1960 Ford Starlinwr they were informed there was already a #3 so they became 33. My Dad enlisted to the USMC & left for Vietnam for a year so my grandfather Pat decided to take up racing at around 50 yrs old. When my Dad returned they built a 2nd car the #43 and continued to give it hell every Sat night up until the mid/late 80s. Fast forward to 2019 and my son Ryan began his racing career in quarter midgets so naturally he became 53 and 1 of his 3 cars sports the classic Patterson brown & yellow combination which is always a unique look & good conversation when we travel out to PA to race or always at our home track of GSQMRC right here in Wall. Happy New Year who knows maybe I will become 63 when I enter my 50s in 4 yrs!! Thanks for all who contribute to this board always fun reads/pics
