I was never an every Saturday night Flemington fan. But I was going several times every year up to 1990. I cannot remember if I went before the first Supermodified race or not, but I remember being underwhelmed by the "new" Flemington. The supers were amazing of course but I just remember much lighter car counts, unfamiliar classes and a bunch of new drivers I didn't know much about. I lived far away for five years of the asphalt era but from 1991 until they closed I probably went 5 times. The vibe and atmosphere was gone in my opinion and it was kind of depressing to be there. I went for the Saturday portion of the last dirt weekend and I recall walking back to my car at the end of the night feeling very hollow inside. I just knew an important part of my life was gone for good. I'm sure it was a difficult decision for them and I hold no ill will towards them. They did what they thought they had to do. Even 30 years ago running a race track was a dumb idea.
