Half of today's "racing fans" would have missed this because they were looking at their phones. At Flemington you learned early on not to look away from the action because you never knew what you might miss. When cars were on the track you didn't look down to get another beer out of the cooler; you didn't use the restroom and you didn't visit the concession stands. Paul gave you plenty of time later in the night to do all that.
