You guys got an extra gene at birth or something as I have looked at many pictures of that #12, from all different angles, and I never once noticed that the injector stacks have filters on top, but that the injector stacks are flared where they filters would mount. 

I hope to see Gil at the GSVSCC banquet in a few weeks so if we don't get an answer before then, I'll get one from the man himself .
