About 20 years ago I was towing along I 195 heading to Wall Stadium. Just before my exit I saw the left front tire of the trailer smoking. I pulled over and saw that the front axle tube snapped about 2 feet in from the hub and the tire was rubbing the fender. I removed the tire and continued the last few miles to the track. When our racing was over, I stuck the floorjack handle into the axle tube and laid the other end on the spring, then duct taped it. We made it back to the shop taking the back roads. It was a very old trailer. They must have shortened the axles and only tack welded them. The welds lasted a long time, but finally gave out.
