Well, I had a very similar situation as Opperman4X had, only we were coming home from East Windsor back in the late 60's.  

My dad was driving and we had just made a right at the corner of Airport Road and Rt 539, heading towards town, and were following a race car on a trailer.  I don't remember if we were a few cars back or not, but I remember it rolling off and heading to the left, through some bushes.  Opperman's story above reminded me, only instead of heading to the races, we were heading home.
