I've been celebrating the 250th the way they did back in the day.... No power, no AC, no running water after a tree went down in on Rt 536 on Friday night, right near here at 3Wide HQ and took down about 6 poles with it.

If you look near the top of the picture (going up the hill) you can see the big tree laying across the road which wen it went down, it took a about 6 - 8 poles and all the wires with it.

It was around 100 degrees here yesterday.... I would have paid $$$ for a breeze!

Latest estimate is for power back on around midnight tonight...  I'm not complaining as I'm thinking JCP&L has a lighter than usual crew over the holiday weekend, and as much as it's no fun sitting in an un-airconditioned house, it's better than putting up poles and stringing up wires.  That had to be a tough job with the heat/etc., plus we had a few more storms roll in last night (wind/rain/lightning) at about the same time when they were trying to make some progress on the above, and that had to slow down things for sure.

As of this morning, they put new poles in, and I guess the next step is for the crew to come out that puts the wires onto the new poles.

(I'm working off of my company lap top, and company cell phone's wifi hotspot since nothing else works when power is out.)

Hope all had a nice 4th/250th, and found a cooler place to be than I did!

Joe, Wow that's brutal! I don't think we had a/c until I was about 10 years old. My father being the depression era minded that he was had a sheet of plastic hanging in the hall to seal off that end of the house. We'd go to bed and wouldn't you know at about 2-3 in the morning he'd get up and shut that window unit down and open up the windows! Gotta save on the electric...LOL He felt by 2-3 oclock it had cooled down enough. We'd be soggy in no time. Classic stuff right there!

Hope you get some relief soon Joe. Stay safe and go sit in the car with the A/C on for a while if needed.

They're still working on it....  Seems like every time they get going, we get another storm (lightning/thunder) so that holding things up, but they are definitely trying.  It's a big job.

Latest estimate is power to be restored by 6pm tonight, but I'm not so sure that will happen.

Spent yesterday at my son's place in Brick NJ, and he fired up the grill so it was a good day.  It's not that hot out today, so definitely a lot more comfortable than the past few days. 

(I'm sitting at a local Hampton Inn (breakfast area) now recharging my laptop/cell phone so I'm able to keep up with work stuff.)  I'll flash my Hilton Honors card if they try to throw me out!

The cable companies have to wait until the power companies finish the work on the poles. Monmouth County had a lot of flooding today. Hopefully, they will have your power on sooner. 

Power has been restored!

They had a lot of work to do...  Tree removal from the road, put new poles up (about 6), reconnect all the cables, and doing it all in between new storms.

All good now, although I do feel like I missed the entire 3 day weekend.  I'll have to make up for it somehow....

Day 4 with no power at "Picnic Headquarters"  lol    I can see the two blown fuses on the pole, but no crews available to fix it.  Generator and gas, and more gas, and more gas.....

I always have generators on hand because of the food truck. I eventually want to get some kind of a transfer switch installed. 

It's pretty easy to back feed your house without the switch.  I learned to do it after Sandy and did most of my buildings and family houses out of necessity. Could not get electricians then. They all still work pretty easily. 

Not trying to be a smart guy by any means Kevin, but make sure the way your back feeding into your home, your not back feeding into the system. There have been instances where the voltage was going back into the system and service men got zapped.

Very true Fred.  There's a few steps of turning the main off, then turning the breaker for the generator on.  Done very carefully.

One of my co-workers has been without power since early Saturday AM...hope yours is restored sooner than later!

Thank goodness we got it back early Tuesday. Fueling a generator at 4 in the morning is not fun. But have to admit, it humbles you and makes me appreciate the convenience of electric, hot water and a fridge!
