Thank you to all who responded in the thread a little ways down the page to this weekend's "Modified/Sportsman Car Owners of the 60's & 70's Trivia question.

I had a few minutes today to come up with a couple more that hopefully you guys will remember, and may jar the memories so that you guys come up with a few more!

Wayne Markovich maroon #96 (Driven by Chip Slocum, Paul Fitzcharles, Rich Polenz.)  Also had a gold #96 for a while driven by Paul Fitzcharles.

Pat Rissi:  light blue #59 Falcon and Gremlin (Driven by Paul Fitzcharles.)

Tony Klimchek (Tony K) red & black #11 coupes, sedan, Mustang, Pinto, (driven by Lee McBride, Al Michalchuk, Carmen Scarpati).  Curve Miller may also been involved in owning?

Dan Spinelli (?) #22 Blue Gremlin driven by Phil Meisner, Carmen Scarpati, other?)

Larry Marvel gold#17 Gremlin (Driven by Phil Meisner.)

Lou Inzeo #80  Sedan and Gremlin (Driven by Bob Pickell, Nokie Mallory, Craig McCaughey, Howie Cronce.)  Lou was also the driver of the early #80 sedan.)

George Smith (Statewide Racing) #3 Sedan, coupe, Weld Gremlin,  (Driven by Harry McConnell, Lee or Larry Taylor, Billy Osmum, Gary Balough, Jimmy Horton, Kenny Brightbill (white Weld Gremlirn).

 

There's another few hundred more if you think about it long enough, and if you include the 60's & 70's.... and if you include both dirt and asphalt.

Today, there are probably less than 3 modified/sportsman "owners only" that trailer their car in for somebody else to drive.  I guess that's because back in the day we had "tinkerer's" who liked to tinker, and racerss that wanted to race.  There was room for both and the economics of the sport allowed for both.  Now it's pay to play, (rather than tinkering/homebuilt/etc.) and there just aren't that many (any) guys that are willing to stand back and write checks just to have their name on a car while somebody else wheels it.

Really sad when you think about it, because a lot of us were drawn to the sport for both... Those that could "tinker" and those that could "wheel it!"
